Full-time: Union 1-1 St. Pauli

The game ends level in a result that is probably better for Union than St. Pauli. Pereira Lage's wonderstrike had given them the lead, but Union always looked likely to score themselves and eventually did so through Ilić. Irvine's late red card means he will miss St. Pauli's next game against Bayern.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
Union have had to work hard to get level, but they have deserved that goal.

Union find a way through

It has been coming. Union have got the ball into the St. Pauli box so often, and finally it pays off. Köhn whips in a corner from the right, and Ilić rises highest to head the ball home.

Half-time: Union 0-1 St. Pauli

St. Pauli lead at the break courtesy of that stunning volley from Pereira Lage. In general, it has been a rather even game, with both sides struggling to create. Union have had moments themselves, but so far, Vasilj has been equal to each effort.

Thunderbolt!

St. Pauli lead, and what a goal it is from Pereira Lage. A Pauli free-kick is sent into the box. Irvine has a go, but his effort is blocked. The ball then pings into the air to the edge of the box, where Pereira Lage hits one of the sweetest volleys you'll ever see. The ball was past Rønnow before he even had a chance to react, and that could be a massive goal for the visitors.

Alexander Blessin on facing Union

"They're a tough side. We know what to expect from them - there won't be any surprises. They're strong in the tackle and tend to win a lot of second balls. They're also good at causing problems from set plays, so we need to be ready for that. It can be tough to play against, but we need to be prepared and find ways of creating chances of our own."

Steffen Baumgart on facing St. Pauli

"Those who have watched Pauli will know they haven't performed badly in recent games. They had opportunities to go 1-0 up in most of those matches. They'll do all they can to get the three points here. Both teams are looking to preserve their top-flight status. We'd love to give ourselves a more comfortable cushion [over the bottom three]."

Union still in top half

Despite losing six of their past nine Bundesliga games, Union remain in a relatively healthy position in the top half of the table. Victory on Matchday 28 would all but end any fears Steffen Baumgart and his players may have of being dragged into a relegation battle.

Pauli in need of vital points

Alexander Blessin's side won three of their four league games in February but have not tasted victory since, with Matchday 27's loss to Freiburg leaving them two points adrift of outright safety.
