Hugo Ekitiké gives bundesliga.com his thoughts on forming the next fearsome strike force at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Full-time: Gladbach 1-1 Frankfurt

That’s it. Goals from Kleindienst and Ekitiké hand both sides a point in a game that could have ended 5-5 or 3-0 either way. Frankfurt edged it on big chances but either could have stolen all three points with a little more composure. An electric atmosphere and high drama throughout.

Gladbach giving it everything

The Foals attack in waves. First some neat build-up play eventually works it's way to Čvančara, who has space to shoot in the box, but his effort is blocked by Theate. Moments later, the ball is fed to Ngoumou, who lets fly from the left and forces Trapp into a save.

Sharpshooter

Kleindienst and Ekitiké have both scored for their clubs today, but the former has been far more clinical with his chances.

Itakura heads wide!

A Stöger corner is punched away but only as far as Neuhaus, who takes a neat touch on the edge of the box, beats his man and angles a ball across the goal to Itakura. The Japanese has time to pick his spot but sends his header just wide of the left post. Let off for Frankfurt.

Neuhaus fires wide

Gladbach win the ball down the left flank and Hack finds himself with space to cross. He cuts one back to the edge of the area and into the path of a rampant Neuhaus. He has time to take a touch but chooses to shoot first time. It's sent spinning high and wide of the target. More composure needed.

Hits don't lie

Frankfurt have had eight shots to the home side's four, so far. But can they make another one count?

Debut done for Batshuayi

Not the goal-scoring return to German football the striker would have hoped for, but he can be pleased with his contribution to Frankfurt's leveller – it was his terrific hold-up play that led directly to it.

Gladbach take charge

The Foals have dominated play since the beginning of the second period, knocking the ball around calmly in search of a way through.
48'

Ouch!

It's a bruising start to the second period as Ullrich charges after a high ball and runs directly into Knauff. The pair clash heads and it looks like a bad one. Thankfully, after some treatment, both return to their feet and the former is booked for reckless play.

Half-time: Gladbach 1-1 Frankfurt

…aaaand breathe! A wild, breathless first-half at Borussia-Park finally comes to a close. Both sides have gone for the throat every time they’ve won the ball. Ekitiké and Kleindienst have both added to their impressive goal tallies this season with clinical finishes. Neither side has really dominated, though, and it’s a fair result at the break.

Three minutes added

The fourth official announces three additional minutes of game time at the end of the half.
43'

End-to-end stuff

Both sides look like creating something with every move right now. It's like a basketball match with dangerous attacks every minute. Neither side really has the upper hand for long.

Frankfurt hit the post!

Knauff receives the ball on the right side of the Gladbach area and sends it arrowing, low, across the box towards the back post. Ekitiké gets a toe to it but an only poke it onto the far post. So close!

Swift response from Frankfurt!

Frankfurt are level and debutant Batshuayi plays his part. The Belgian receives the ball with back to goal inside the Gladbach box. He shows quick feet and strength to keep hold of it before the ball is fed to Larsson on the edge of the area. The midfielder curls a shot towards the top right corner, but Nicolas tips it onto the crossbar. Ekitiké is on hand to tap home the rebound for his 12th of the season.

Kleindienst breaks the deadlock!

Gladbach clear a ball out of their box to the left flank, where Neuhaus greets it. The midfielder sends a stunning, arcing cross back into the Gladbach area and straight onto the head of Kleindienst. The big man rises highest to nod it beyond Trapp from close range. It's his 13th of the campaign and he's now overtaken his tally for Heidenheim last term.

Frankfurt close!

Skhiri, from the inside-right channel, collects the ball and sends it fizzing diagonally into the Gladbach box. Batshuayi lets it run across his chest and into the path of Ekitiké. The striker can't get his feet right and it rolls out for a goal kick.
21'

Neuhaus fires wide

The midfielder collects the ball just outside the Frankfurt box, turns and lets fly. Trapp is beaten but he looks confident enough that the ball is going wide. It does, too. But not by much.
17'

Goal ruled out!

Gladbach win the ball inside the Frankfurt half and create an overload. Neuhaus charges at the defence and slides a ball in-behind for Hack. But replays show he's held on a fraction too long and Hack has strayed a fraction offside by the time it arrives in his path. The latter finishes coolly beyond Trapp but the whistle sounds immediately.

Feel the noise!

It's worth mentioning that it's absolutely bouncing at Borussia-Park for this clash. Both ends doing their best to drown the other out. A sensational advert for German football culture.

Gladbach get involved

Ngoumou is sent charging down the right by a searching pass and reaches it just outside the Frankfurt box. He takes a touch and shoots, but sees his effort blocked behind for a corner. That also comes to nothing.
7'

Frankfurt shoot first

Neat play from Götze sees the World Cup winner exchange passes in midfield before sprinting down the left flank in possession and cutting a ball across the Gladbach box. It's cleared, but only as far as Skhiri, who sends a shot whistling over the bar.
3'

Frankfurt take charge

It's the visitors who make the more positive start, knocking the ball around confidently in the opening minutes and winning it back aggressively whenever a mistake is made.

More on that Gladbach team

Gerardo Seoane makes two changes to his side that beat Stuttgart last time out. Friedrich and Neuhaus come in for Elvedi and Sander, who aren't selected. There were doubts over Tim Kleindienst's fitness ahead of this game, but the German leads the line for the Foals this evening.

Dino Toppmöller on facing Gladbach

"We faced Borussia early in the season and they've made excellent progress since then. They have good patterns of play and are really good when it comes to playing with the ball. I watched their game against Stuttgart live from home and was impressed. We're facing a tough nut that's in good form."

Gerardo Seoane on facing Eintracht

"They are repeatedly able to acquire these exciting players who they then sell on for big fees. Their current squad is full of youth, quality, pace and power and they have also demonstrated those qualities on the continental stage."

Super sub Uzun

Can Uzun scored all 3 of his goals this season from off the bench and, as such, is the joint-most successful substitute goalscorer this Bundesliga season (tied with Gnabry, Undav, Wind and Woltemade).

Gladbach transfers

The Foals were one of the quieter Bundesliga sides in the winter window, but they still made two strong acquisitions. Midfielder Jens Castrop (Nuremberg) and defender Kevin Diks (FC Copenhagen) both agreed deals that will see them relocate to Borussia-Park in the summer.
camera-photo

Frankfurt transfer business

Despite losing talismanic striker Omar Marmoush over the winter transfer window to Manchester City, Frankfurt have made some smart acquisitions. Defender Arthur Theate's loan deal from Rennes was made permanent. The Eagles also made further permanent additions in the form of former BVB striker Michy Batshuayi and French forward Elye Wahi from Marseille.

Gladbach out for revenge?

Eintracht Frankfurt are unbeaten against Mönchengladbach in their 7 Bundesliga meetings (4 wins, 3 draws), with their last Bundesliga defeat coming in April 2021 (4-0 at Gladbach). However, the Foals come into this one off the back of 2 consecutive Bundesliga victories, with the last time they won 3 times in a row coming on the last 3 matchdays of the 2019/20 season under former coach Marco Rose.
