Arminia begin their must-win match with a starting XI changed in five positions - the most Bielefeld have made in a single match this season! Hagmann, Knoche, Handwerker (pictured), Rochelt and Uldrikis all drop to the bench, while Großer, Sicker, Lannert, Schreck and Grodowski come into the side.

Starting XI debut for Berner

Karbownik's absence gives Berner the chance for his first appearance from the start. The 21-year-old left-back has so far only played 20 minutes for the first team, 12 in the league and eight in the cup.

Klemens plays

Klemens is in the Hertha starting line-up for the first time since February. The academy product had temporarily been left out due to his uncertain contract situation, and made his first substitute appearance last week since signing his contract extension.

Grönning leads the attack

With Kownacki unavailable and Schuler also ruled out, and Winkler – who had recently been filling in centrally – suspended, Grönning gets his chance up front. The Dane had made only three starting appearances in the league this season, the last of which came in October 2025.

Hertha team news

The Berliners have arrived with a severely depleted squad. In addition to the players previously missing, they are also without the suspended Brekalo (red card) and Winkler (fifth yellow card), while Karbownik (pictured) is also ruled out. This opens the door for young talent, with 17-year-old Niklas Hildebrand (previously only in the professional squad on Matchday 34 of last season) and 20-year-old Soufian Gouram (called up for the very first time) both named on the bench.

Robin Knoche (2nd l.) is yet to win against Hertha in Bundesliga 2 (D1, L1 with Nuremberg), but has four wins in his last four Bundesliga matches against the Old Lady and was among the scorers in Union's 3-1 derby win against Hertha in August 2022.

Bielefeld last beat the Berliners in January 2021 (1-0 at home in the Bundesliga, goal by Reinhold Yabo). Hertha's last away win at Arminia was a 2-0 in the DFB Cup in 2015, with the last league victory at the Alm coming over 15 years ago when brothers Raffael (r.) and Ronny (2nd r.) netted in a 3-1 win in Bundesliga 2 in January 2011.

Arminia leave it late

Hertha were leading 1-0 until deep into stoppage time on their last visit to Bielefeld in April 2022 in the Bundesliga, only for Arminia's Joakim Nilsson to equalise in the 91st minute.
