A substitution for Karlsruhe
Karlsruhe manager Christian Eichner makes one change to his starting line-up compared to the last match (2-1 victory at Hamburg): Marcel Franke comes in for Marcel Beifus (on the bench).
Unchanged visitors
The new Lautern coach Torsten Lieberknecht sends the same starting eleven onto the pitch that began on the last matchday in the 2-1 home victory against Schalke.
This is how Kaiserslautern line up
Krahl - Elvedi, Sirch, Heuer - Ronstadt, Kaloc, Redondo - Yokota, Ritter (c) - Hanslik, Ache
This is how Karlsruhe line up
Weiß - Kobald, Rapp, Franke - Jung, Jensen, Herold - Burnić, Wanitzek (c) - Conté, Ben Farhat
Torsten Lieberknecht's thoughts on facing Karlsruhe
"We want to continue attacking and make the next statement. If you want to reach for something, you have to stretch everything out and be forward-thinking."
Christian Eichner's thoughts on facing Kaiserslautern
"We still have something to make up for from the reverse fixture, which is also a very important factor for the spectators. We want to leapfrog our opponents on the table. To do that, we need to continue where we left off last Sunday in terms of our football and results. They have a very robust team and up front with Ragnar Ache, they have a top striker."
Loves playing against Lautern
Marvin Wanitzek has scored a goal in each of his last three matches against Kaiserslautern.
Memories of a historic duel
On 25 May 1996, Karlsruhe and Kaiserslautern faced each other in the DFB Cup final. Martin Wagner scored the golden goal, and after Andreas Brehme received a second yellow card, ten Red Devils defended their lead to secure victory - today's managing director Thomas Hengen also played the full 90 minutes. After the cup win, Hengen transferred to Karlsruhe.
Which way will the scales tip?
Recently, the record has been balanced (last five encounters one draw and two wins each), in the first leg Kaiserslautern prevailed 3-1.
Traditional Rivalry
42 of the 66 competitive matches between Karlsruhe and Lautern took place in the Bundesliga – but the last time these two founding members of the Bundesliga shared a top-flight season was quite some time ago (1997/98).
