Full-time: Union 0-3 Heidenheim

The visitors couldn't have wished for things to have panned out any better this afternoon. With both Bochum and Holstein Kiel beaten and relegated, Frank Schmidt's side ran out comfortable winners in the German capital to seal at least a relegation/promotion play-off spot. Adrian Beck's double and a further strike by Jan Schöppner means the visitors can dream of even more ahead of St. Pauli's game at Frankfurt on Sunday.

Incredibly, Heidenheim don't look satisfied with their three-goal haul, as the visitors go in search of more. Incidentally, Adrian Beck is the first player for Heidenheim to net a goalscoring double in the Bundesliga this season.

Good day for Heidenheim

Things are going pretty well for Frank Schmidt's side today. His team are looking pretty comfortable at 2-0 and are continuing to create chances. As things stand, Bochum and Kiel below them are both relegated while Heidenheim's grip on the play-off spot is secure, with even more still possible. Plenty of time to go yet, however.

Heidenheim go 2-0 up!

Well, well, well! Heidenheim double their lead and the away fans are going crazy in the capital. Feller's free kick floats all the way up to Pieringer, who nods on for Schöppner. The midfielder beats Vogt a little too easily before slotting through the legs of Frederik Rønnow!

Beck lacks composure

This looks a decent moment for Heidenheim, with the game's goalscorer Beck working space for himself outside the box. The 27-year-old hurries his shot a little and scuffs wide.

With just four attempts on goal in the opening 45 minutes, we're headed towards the break as we enter time aded on.

A rare home chance here as Andrej Ilić connects with a ball into the middle. The Lille loanee never had that under control and the opportunity passes.

As things stand

Heidenheim are sitting a little more comfortably in that relegation play-off spot at the moment, Schmidt's side three points ahead of Kiel in 17th. St. Pauli, at Eintracht tomorrow, are two points ahead of FCH.
19'

End-to-end now

That goal has really brought proceedings to life. Christopher Trimmel smashes one at goal from the right but this one is at a nice height for Feller, who leaps and gets two hands behind the shot, pushing it away.

Heidenheim pushing

Traoré makes a nuisance of himself down the right and his ball seeking out Pieringer in the centre is just lacking accuracy.

Both sides make their way out onto the pitch on a bright day in Berlin. Top conditions for football and we're almost ready to go!

Feller's chance

Kevin Müller continues to recover from the horrific collision with Bochum's Ibrahima Sissoko on Matchday 32. The Heidenheim shot-stopper was badly concussed during the scoreless draw. As mentioned below, the 21-year-old Frank Feller - who came on to make his Bundesliga bow against Bochum - starts here. Feller has previously featured in the DFB Cup and UEFA Conference League this term.

Wanner's rare start

Bayern Munich loanee and Germany U21 international Paul Wanner is making his first Heidenheim start in over two months. The 19 year old id part of the visitors' youngest starting line-up in their brief Bundesliga history (average age 25.5).

More on those teams

Union are showing one change to the side that started last weekend's draw against Werder Bremen, with Laszlo Benes replacing Andras Schäfer. Meanwhile, Niklas Dorsch returns from suspension for Heidenheim while goalkeeper Frank Feller is making his very first Bundesliga start for the visitors.

Heidenheim starting XI

Feller - Mainka (c), Gimber, Siersleben - Traoré, Schöppner, Dorsch, Krätzig - Wanner, Beck - Pieringer

Heidenheim subs

Eicher, Busch, Föhrenbach, Keller, Niehues, Kerber, Scienza, Zivzivadze, Honsak

Union starting XI

Rønnow - Doekhi, Vogt, Querfeld - Trimmel (c), Bénes, Khedira, Haberer, Rothe - Hollerbach, Ilić

Union subs

Schwolow, Juranović, Ogbemudia, Schäfer, Skarke, Tousart, Volland, Ljubicic, Preu

Permutations

Heidenheim's task is simple - they must win to have any chance of staying in the division automatically. However, if Hoffenheim beat Wolfsburg, Heidenheim's result will be irrelevant and will mean they can finish no higher than 16th. That combination of results, though, would at least guarantee Heidenheim the relegation play-off spot IF Holstein Kiel lose to Freiburg.

Frank Schmidt on Union

"Steffen Baumgart has led Union to the point where they have gained stability and are now unbeaten in their last eight in the Bundesliga. Of course, it's also unpleasant to play against them, as you've clearly seen in the last two home games. They’re a team that is very dangerous from set-pieces and can also play with a certain amount of freedom. That's what we're preparing for."

On the right track

With three wins, three draws four losses from their last ten games, Heidenheim have picked up enough form to keep them in the survival conversation. Before the start of that run, they had lost five consecutive games between the middle of January and the middle of February.

Must-win for Heidenheim

Union are one of just two teams that Heidenheim are yet to lose against in a Bundesliga match. The other is Bremen, whom Schmidt's side face on Matchday 34. The visitors must win in the capital to give themselves any chance of surviving automatically on the final day.

Unbeatable Union?

Union are currently unbeaten in eight Bundesliga games (three wins, five draws) – a run unmatched by any other team Germany's top tier. Their past four results were all draws – no other side can match that either.
