Full-time: Leipzig 1-0 PSV

Leipzig hold out for a big three points thanks to Brajan Gruda's tidy finish and Maarten Vandevoordt's first-half penalty save. It was a game in which both sides had their moments, and both sides certainly could have scored, but in the end, it is Leipzig that take all three points.

Kick-off!

Half-time: Leipzig 0-0 PSV

We've not seen a goal yet, but there has been plenty of drama. Both sides have had some good moments going forward, and neither team looks content to settle for a draw. PSV had the best chance when Baku was adjudged to have handled the ball, only for Perišić's spot kick to be saved by Vandevoordt.

The hosts' best chance came in just the fourth minute when Baku nearly produced a spectacular volleyed finish.

Players on the pitch

The Champions League anthem is playing, and the players are ready to go. We're now just moments away from getting underway.

Players warming up

Both sets of players are out on the pitch now, going through their paces as we approach kick-off. Just 25 minutes to wait now.

Perišić's first appearance against Leipzig

Despite making a total of 187 Bundesliga appearances, tonight will be the first time that the Croatian faces Leipzig. He missed both games while at Bayern during the 2019/20 season, and he also missed a cup game against Leipzig back in 2015 when Leipzig still played in Bundesliga 2.

Leipzig team news

Given Leipzig's emphatic 6-0 win against Frankfurt at the weekend, it's not too surprising to see that Martín Demichelis has kept changes to a minimum. The only swap sees Gruda return to the starting XI after recovering from injury. He replaces Maksimović.

PSV team news

Bosz opts for three changes from the side that beat Heerenveen on Friday, and all three players coming into the starting XI are ex-Bundesliga. Those players are Geertruida (pictured), who is ex-Leipzig, Perišić and Kostić.

Both sides on difficult UCL runs

Having lost to Como on Matchday 1, Leipzig have now won just one of their last 11 Champions League matches. Nine of those 11 games have ended in defeat. PSV haven't been looking much better in the UCL either, winning two, drawing four and losing five of their last 11 in the competition proper.

PSV looking good domestically

PSV have won the last three Dutch league titles and are up near the top again this season, currently sitting just one point behind leaders Feyenoord. On Friday, they beat Herenveen 2-0.

Maarten Vandevoordt on facing PSV

"We love playing at home in front of our fans and we also need their support. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and the atmosphere in the stadium."

Mauro Júnior, PSV defender, on facing Leipzig

“I think it’s going to be a very tough match. They have a very good team. They’re very good at transitioning on the attack. So we have to prevent that. Of course, they have a lot of strengths, but I’m confident enough. I think we can get a good result here.”

Peter Bosz on facing Leipzig

“I’ve watched several of Leipzig’s matches by now and have gotten a sense of how they play. However, I don’t want to just say that I know the coach and know exactly how he thinks. What I’m seeing now is that Leipzig is playing a little differently than before. They’re trying to build up more from the back and create plays from there. It’s less direct than it used to be.”

Watch: Martín Demichelis previews PSV encounter

Martín Demichelis on Leipzig's approach

"Against Frankfurt, we scored two goals early on. I hope and expect that we will show a similar determination again [against PSV]. We think step by step. Our focus is solely on the next task and on securing the three points."

Martín Demichelis on facing PSV

"PSV are a very interesting side with a clear playing philosophy. The key will be to bring our own game on to the pitch. Our pressing [in the 6-0 weekend win] against Frankfurt was very good. That's exactly the intensity we want to show again. It will be an attractive match. Both teams want to be positive and apply pressure early."

Trio remain sidelined

Martín Demichelis is set to be without injured trio Christoph Baumgartner, Marc Guiu and Assan Ouédraogo (pictured) against the Dutch champions. Guiu is struggling with a muscle issue, while Ouédraogo and Baumgartner remain sidelined with shoulder and thigh injuries respectively.

'Not as easy as it looks'

Reflecting on his Matchday 5 treble, Nkunku said: "It's not as easy as it looks. You have to be in the right place at the right time. I'm happy I was able to score three goals. We spent three weeks preparing for this and put in a good performance. We worked well together both in attack and defence. We're all very happy."

Familiar faces

Lutsharel Geertruida joined PSV on loan from Leipzig in the summer, but was an injury doubt at the end of the international break, as was Paul Wanner - the former Bayern Munich talent who joined the Dutch champions in summer 2025. Goalkeeper Matěj Kovář left Leverkusen permanently in January to join PSV after an initial loan.

A first for Leipzig

Leipzig have never before faced a Dutch club in European football, but will also travel in the final match of the league phase to face Feyenoord. PSV faced both Bayern Munich (losing 2-1 at home) and Bayer Leverkusen (drawing 1-1 away) in last season's league phase.

Eindhoven in again

PSV celebrated their third successive Dutch title last season and are in their fourth consecutive UEFA Champions League. They knocked out Juventus in a play-off to reach the last 16 in 2024/25 and got the new league phase off to a modest start with a 1-1 draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.

Comeback after Como?

Leipzig will be looking forward to their first home match of the league phase as they aim to collect their first points following a 4-1 defeat in Northern Italy on the first matchday.
