How was his 2025/26 season?

Sensational, again. Kane finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer for the third straight season with 36 goals, playing a key role in Bayern retaining the Meisterschale. The 32-year-old also registered 14 goals in 13 matches as Vincent Kompany’s side reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, and a further 10 strikes in the DFB Cup - including a match-winning hat-trick in the final.

Watch: Kane - more than a goalscorer

What he brings to the national team

In addition to his goals – Kane is England’s all-time top scorer with 81 and counting – his elusive movement and link-up play make him incredibly hard to mark. He’s also the England captain and has a wealth of experience at the highest level as he leads a star-studded Three Lions team. Furthermore, as an expert penalty taker, his ability from the spot, as shown in the first goal of his World Cup-opening double against Croatia, could prove crucial in the knockout rounds.

What his coaches say

"Bayern Munich in the absence of Harry Kane has not the same threat, no team in the world has the same threat, it’s just normal. If top teams rely on top players and top nations rely on top players, that’s just absolutely normal. We can win games without Harry, we will win without Harry, we have won without Harry. It’s easier to win matches with Harry [...] There’s just no second Harry Kane." - England head coach Thomas Tuchel

"People in England saw him as a goalscorer during his time playing there. His finishing and leadership were never underestimated. We’ve seen other qualities too, such as his footballing intelligence. We can appreciate that now – it was perhaps somewhat underestimated in England. He’s like a fine wine that improves with age. I also enjoy that aspect of his game." - Kompany
