Penalties decide relegation six-pointer as Hamburg edge past Wolfsburg
Jean-Luc Dompé's second-half spot-kick secured a vital win for Hamburg in their relegation battle as they saw off struggling Wolfsburg, with all three goals coming from penalties.

With Wolfsburg sitting in 17th place and Hamburg also battling relegation, this Matchday 25 encounter at the Volkswagen Arena was a genuine six-pointer. The hosts entered the match with just 20 points from 24 matches - their lowest-ever tally at this stage of a season - and found themselves in the bottom two for the first time in 15 years.
Daniel Bauer's side had conceded more goals than any other team in the Bundesliga this season (53) and were yet to win in the Rückrunde.
The visitors, meanwhile, came into the match following defeats to RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen that had ended a promising six-game unbeaten run.
Three penalties decide tight contest
After a cagey opening period with few clear-cut chances, the match sparked into life when Hamburg's Daniel Elfadli caught Yannick Gerhardt with a high boot in the penalty area after Daniel Heuer Fernandes had initially denied Jan Bürger. Referee Florian Exner had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, with Christian Eriksen stepping up in the 22nd minute and firing powerfully down the middle to give the Wolves a crucial lead.
The home side's advantage lasted just 11 minutes, however, as the referee awarded another penalty when Moritz Jenz caught Luka Vušković on the heel during a set piece. The young Croatian defender took the responsibility himself and, despite not striking the ball cleanly, saw his effort squeeze past Kamil Grabara to bring Hamburg level.
Dompé delivers decisive blow
The second half began with Wolfsburg pressing for the lead, as Konstantinos Koulierakis' header was kept out by a combination of Heuer Fernandes and his own teammate, Jenz.
However, it was HSV who took the lead in the 58th minute with yet another penalty - their second of the match and the third overall. During a corner kick, Jonas Adjetey wrestled Vušković to the ground right in front of the referee, resulting in a yellow card for the Wolfsburg defender and another spot-kick for the visitors. This time, Dompé took responsibility and made no mistake, sending the ball low to the goalkeeper's left to put Hamburg 2-1 ahead.
Wolves wasteful as Hamburg hold firm
In the 64th minute, Dženan Pejčinović found himself unmarked at the back post following a corner, but incredibly, he managed to head against the post from just a couple of yards out. Despite mounting pressure in the closing stages, with Wolfsburg throwing everything forward, including goalkeeper Grabara for late corners, Hamburg's defence stood firm.
The visitors held on through eight minutes of added time to secure a vital victory that significantly boosts their survival hopes while leaving Wolfsburg firmly entrenched in the relegation zone.

Man of the Match: Luka Vušković
The young Croatian defender was the catalyst for Hamburg's comeback victory. Not only did Vušković convert the crucial equalising penalty with composure, but he also won both spot-kicks for his team through his intelligent movement in the box.
His defensive contribution was equally impressive, winning more challenges (19) than any other player on the pitch.
Vušković's overall performance made him the standout player in a match where fine margins proved decisive, and his 340 fantasy points were the highest of any player. The defender's positioning, aerial presence and calmness under pressure were all key factors in Hamburg's precious away win.
