VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade set for whirlwind summer with two international tournament call-ups - plus DFB Cup final
While some Bundesliga stars are already in post-season rest mode, Nick Woltemade will continue his hunt for goals on multiple fronts in the coming weeks. As well as VfB Stuttgart's DFB Cup final against Arminia Bielefeld and the U21 Euros, the forward has received a maiden call-up to the senior Germany squad.
This Saturday, Woltemade will be part of a Stuttgart side aiming to lift the club's first DFB Cup since 1997 as they face underdogs Arminia Bielefeld (kick-off 8pm CEST). A first trophy for the 23-year-old who smashed in 12 goals in a stunning debut season for Stuttgart might just be the start of an unforgettable summer.
It was revealed two days ahead of the showdown in Berlin that Woltemade has made a senior Germany international squad for the first time ahead of the UEFA Nations League finals (in which the Spain vs France semi-final and third-placed play-off are to be held at his club's stadium, the MHP Arena).
Germany U21 coach Antonio di Salvo spilled the beans when unveiling his squad for this summer's European championship in Slovakia on Wednesday that Woltemade was set to also gain a call-up from Julian Nagelsmann.
He said: "Julian called me. Of course, you like to have the whole squad together ahead of the tournament, but I have no worries at all with Nick. He's so well integrated and will definitely help us after his duty for the senior Germany team ends."
Germany face a Nations League semi-final against Portugal on 4 June, and may contest the final on 8 June, with Germany U21's first fixture at the European Championship on 12 June against Slovenia.
If all goes well for Woltemade, he could scoop a hat-trick of titles within just over a month as the U21 championships concludes with a final on 28 June. What a summer that would be!
