Serge Gnabry leaves Germany camp to return to Bayern Munich
Serge Gnabry has returned to Bayern Munich after departing the Germany camp ahead of Die Nationalelf's final fixture of the international break, the DFB have confirmed.
Gnabry was included in both of Jürgen Klopp's squads for the four UEFA Nations League matches across this three-week break, playing a part in all three games so far in his attempt to build up fitness after missing the FIFA World Cup this past summer with an adductor injury. In the 2-0 win over Serbia, he wore the captain's armband for the first time, which he described as a 'wonderful experience'.
However, ahead of the Greece clash, he has returned to his club to prepare for the return of the Bundesliga. There is no suggestion that he has suffered an fresh injury and is therefore expected to be available for his side's Matchday 5 encounter with Augsburg.
Following the Serbia match, Gnabry gave an insight into his fitness, explaining. "I'm not at 100 percent yet. This was now my fourth game. I played fewer minutes in the previous matches. But I have to get there through playing time. Every minute is important now."
After drawing with the Netherlands and losing to Greece in Mainz, Klopp picked up his first win as head coach versus Serbia. He will now hope to close out the break in style in Thessaloniki on Sunday (kick-off: 8.45pm CEST).
