Harry Kane's England pass stern Serbia test
England won their opening match of a European Championships for just the second time, but they were made to work for it by an impressive Serbia side.
England 1-0 Serbia
Goals: 1-0 Bellingham (13')
A Kane-led England passed a physical test against Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener, thanks to a goal from former Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham. It was a cross from Bukayo Saka on the right that found the now Real Madrid man in the box, who dived to attack the cross after Kane created the space for him. The Bayern Munich top scorer was engaged in a scrappy first half with Serbia defender Nikola Milenković. His best chance came much later in the game, a strong header drawing an incredible save from Predraj Rajković. After being stubborn to break down in the first half, Serbia stepped it up in the second half, with Dušan Vlahović drawing a full-stretch save from Jordan Pickford in the England goal. In the end, Bellingham's header was enough for the Three Lions to secure the three points.
