Vincent Kompany compares Michael Olise to Kevin De Bruyne after UEFA Champions League masterclass
Following his electric display in Bayern Munich's 6-1 mauling of Atalanta in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, head coach Vincent Kompany compared the France international to his legendary former teammate Kevin De Bruyne.
Bayern were in irresistible form as they put Atalanta to the sword in Italy, and Olise was at the forefront. He found the back of the net twice, including once from 25 yards, to take his season tally in the competition to three goals.
It was just the latest fantastic display in a season that appears to be showing no signs of slowing down for the 24-year-old. He now has 15 goals and 22 assists in all tournaments, terrifying opposition defences with his blend of pace, trickery and clinical finishing.
Watch: Best of Michael Olise in the Bundesliga

And, after the encounter in Bergamo, Kompany lavished praise on the winger, saying, "He's very detail-oriented in his work, that's what sets him apart. That was also true of Kevin De Bruyne, whom I watched at Manchester City on his way to becoming world-class. Michael can become one of the best attacking players ever. He's on a very good path."
High praise indeed, and if Olise can get close to matching De Bruyne's career output, he will have done very well for himself. The Belgian spent two-and-a-half seasons in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg, scoring 23 goals in 85 games and being named the division's Player of the Season for 2014/15.
That was before transferring to Man City, where he developed into one of the best players in the world, even winning the Champions League in 2022/23.
