Bundesliga honours Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane with giant projection
On Saturday evening, the Bundesliga paid a special tribute to Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane. Just a few days after the award ceremony in London, the Bayern Munich striker appeared larger than life on Munich’s Olympic Tower before kick-off against Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker.
The giant projection onto the tallest structure in the Bavarian capital was captured by a camera drone and integrated live into national and international live broadcasts. The scenes complemented the on-pitch tribute conducted by Bayern Munich officials at the Allianz Arena ahead of the Klassiker between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.
The activation followed the Bundesliga’s earlier Ballon d'Or initiatives in London. As part of a rapidly implemented campaign, the league congratulated the striker immediately after his award in a highly visible manner: the recognition of Kane’s achievement was displayed on illuminated façades of landmark buildings such as County Hall, The Strand, and Tate Modern, as well as across approximately 400 outdoor advertising spaces.
Kane received the prestigious trophy from the French football magazine France Football on Monday evening. Bundesliga Managing Directors Marc Lenz and Steffen Merkel said: “Harry Kane is one of the outstanding players of his generation. He embodies exceptional dedication, extraordinary ability, and continues to inspire millions of football fans around the world – representing excellence both on and off the pitch. No one deserved the Ballon d'Or in 2026 more than Harry Kane. It is a tremendous pleasure to witness him week after week in the Bundesliga.”
