Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala and Christopher Nkunku were among the biggest hitters for Fantasy Managers across a thrilling 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign.

Mark Flekken
Club: Freiburg
Position: Goalkeeper
Points: 215

Freiburg followed up a sixth-placed finish last season with fifth this term, while Flekken also went one better in the Fantasy rankings to finish as the top goalkeeper. He was neck-and-neck with Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels for much of the campaign, but the Dutchman just pipped the Belgian by 12 points. Flekken ended the season with the most clean sheets (14) and was second to Manuel Riemann for saves with 119. It all justifies his price tag as the most expensive goalkeeper.

Jeremie Frimpong
Club: Bayer Leverkusen
Position: Defender
Points: 305

No player completed more sprints in the division than Frimpong. Not that those stats get you points in Fantasy, but it shows just how energetic he was up the Leverkusen right, whether as a wing- or full-back. The 22-year-old Dutchman was instrumental in Die Werkself’s sixth-placed finish with eight goals – the most of any defender in the German top flight – and seven assists. There were obviously also plenty more points for the chances he created and shots he took that didn’t result in goals, while over a third of his points came from duels won as he topped the defensive Fantasy charts.

Benjamin Pavard
Club: Bayern Munich
Position: Defender
Points: 249

We saw Pavard back at his best again this season, despite his numerous changes of position that sometimes made you question whether he was worth it. The short answer is that he was, whether at right-back, centre-back or on the right of a back three. Four goals and an assist are the headline stats, but he got most of his points for duels won and attempts on goal – something we know the Frenchman is never shy of, with 33 efforts this past season.

Raphael Guerreiro
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position: Defender
Points: 272

Guerreiro has often been a source of frustration among us Fantasy nerds at Bundesliga HQ. The one week you pick him, he produces very little. When you don’t, he goes massive. But on the whole you can say he delivered in his final season as a Dortmund player, topping the division assists charts with 12 – plus four goals – from what was originally just left-back but also turned into a central midfield berth later in the season as BVB stormed into the title race and so very nearly snatched it.

Dominik Szoboszlai
Club: RB Leipzig
Position: Midfielder
Points: 295

The performances of Christopher Nkunku mean Szoboszlai’s efforts often go under the radar, but the Hungarian is no less influential on Leipzig’s game as a playmaker. Only Jonas Hofmann and Joshua Kimmich set up more goalscoring chances across the division than Szoboszlai’s 72, from which he got eight assists. A total of 63 shots and eight resulting goals ensured his points tally was constantly ticking over.

Jonas Hofmann
Club: Borussia Mönchengladbach
Position: Midfielder
Points: 312

Hofmann is proof that you should look up and down the whole Bundesliga table when looking for players to choose in Fantasy. Gladbach may have finished 10th and the 30-year-old is the only player in this best XI not at a team that qualified for Europe, but he amassed the most points of anyone. Twelve goals and nine assists show just how devastating the Germany international can be, while his league-leading 101 passes to a shot accounted for 84 points – nearly a quarter of his final tally.

Jude Bellingham
Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position: Midfielder
Points: 307

The official Bundesliga Player of the Season finished just five points shy of Hofmann and surely would’ve been clear at the top had he not missed the final two games with injury. The 19-year-old was the most assertive player in the division with a league-high 482 challenges won for almost a quarter of his Fantasy points. The England international was almost everywhere, ranking sixth for sprints and chipping in with eight crucial goals and four assists, being instrumental in Dortmund’s title charge both with his footballing abilities and his leadership qualities.

Christopher Nkunku
Club: RB Leipzig
Position: Midfielder
Points: 298

Nkunku was the leading points scorer up until his pre-World Cup injury. It’s hard to imagine he wouldn’t have had far more come the end of May if not for only making 25 appearances, but the France international still managed 16 goals to tie with Niclas Füllkrug as the winner of the Torjägerkanone for the Bundesliga’s top scorer. Nearly a third of his points (96) came from shots on goal alone.

Vincenzo Grifo
Club: Freiburg
Position: Midfielder
Points: 296

Grifo finished as the third-most expensive player in Fantasy at 18M, but neither of the top two in Kimmich and Alphonso Davies made the Team of the Season. Symbolic of Freiburg’s campaign, the Italy international kept on producing the goods. He was second at the club for both shots and passes to a shot, thanks mainly to his status as the set-piece taker. Seven of his 15 goals – a personal best in the Bundesliga and just one shy of sharing the Torjägerkanone with Nkunku and Füllkrug – were penalties. It proves you should always look out for the main man at teams who perform best from dead balls.

Randal Kolo Muani
Club: Eintracht Frankfurt
Position: Forward
Points: 307

It’s been a memorable maiden Bundesliga campaign for Kolo Muani from his very first game, when he scored against Bayern Munich, to the last, when he secured Frankfurt European football against Freiburg. Fifteen goals and 11 assists all told mean the French striker was the most prolific player in the division for a team that also reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the first time ever.

Jamal Musiala
Club: Bayern Munich
Position: Forward
Points: 293

Many managers were left scratching their heads at the start of the season when Musiala was switched from a midfielder to a forward, of which Bayern had seven who were all regulars in the team. But people were soon scrambling to get the teenager in their team after his blistering start to the campaign. Although his and Bayern’s numbers tailed off in a difficult Rückrunde, German football’s leading youngster still produced an impressive 12 goals and 10 assists, including the title winner against Cologne on the final day.
