Germany will travel to Switzerland on Friday (kick-off: 8.45pm CET) to face their neighbours in an international friendly. Not only have they met 53 times in the past, but the Bundesliga is a hotbed for Swiss talent, with no fewer than eight of the current squad currently plying their trade in the German top flight.

There has long been a strong connection between German and Swiss football, which has continued into this latest international break. Seventeen of the Nati’s 26-man squad have featured in the Bundesliga at some point during their careers, including captain Granit Xhaka and back-up skipper Ricardo Rodriguez.

So, which current Bundesliga players have made it into head coach Murat Yakin’s group this time around?

Gregor Kobel Borussia Dortmund

Despite his goalkeeping prowess, Kobel only has 19 caps to his name, previously having to play back-up to stalwart Yann Sommer. The 28-year-old has a Bundesliga-high 12 clean sheets this campaign and looks well-placed to line up between the sticks for his country at this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Miro Muheim Hamburg

A former Chelsea youth-team player, Muheim registered the third-most assists in Bundesliga 2 last term with 11, and has played in all but one game amongst the elite this term. Vice-captain at Hamburg, he has six caps and will be looking to add to that over the coming months, although 135-time international Rodriguez is his competition at left-back.

Silvan Widmer Mainz

Now in his fifth season at the club, Mainz captain Widmer has 56 caps for his country and is a safe bet to be on the plane to this summer’s World Cup. He has featured 21 times for the 05ers in the Bundesliga this season, scoring twice.

Nico Elvedi Borussia Mönchengladbach

Another with bags of international experience, Elvedi joined Gladbach in 2015 and has been an important part of the first team ever since. So far, he has 63 caps to his name and played every game in Switzerland’s successful World Cup qualification cycle.

Luca Jaquez VfB Stuttgart

Jaquez is at the other end of the scale, having only made his international debut in the 2-0 win over Sweden back in October 2025. That remains his only Switzerland appearance to date, with his struggle to nail down a regular starting spot in a Stuttgart side full of quality perhaps holding him back.

Aurèle Amenda Eintracht Frankfurt

Managing just eight appearances during his first season at Frankfurt, Amenda has been far more prominent in the Eagles’ team in 2025/26, amassing 22 appearances in all competitions. He is yet to taste defeat in any of his four outings for his nation, a run he will hope to extend against Germany.

Johan Manzambi Freiburg

Freiburg have earned a reputation for spotting exciting young talent, and 20-year-old Manzambi is the latest to make his mark for the Black Forest club. Three goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances this term only partly illustrate his creative ability, while he has scored jusr as many in eight international outings.

Fabian Rieder Augsburg

Following his spell at Stuttgart, Rieder joined Augsburg last summer and has a respectable four goals and three assists across all competitions so far this term. He has pulled on the Switzerland shirt 25 times in his career, scoring once.
