After the very positive discussions with the management, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to join Werder."

Bremen will be the fourth coaching stop of Thioune's career. He started out at VfL Osnabrück in 2017, eventually earning promotion from the 3. Liga to Bundesliga 2, before stints at Hamburg and Düsseldorf. This is his maiden top-flight head coaching role.

He took charge of his first training season on Wednesday, while he and his new side will travel to Freiburg on Matchday 21 of the Bundesliga campaign for his first game in the hot seat.
