Werder Bremen's Clemens Fritz provides update on Romano Schmid's future
Werder Bremen managing director for sport Clemens Fritz has confirmed that talks are underway regarding winger Romano Schmid amid reported interest in the Austrian international.
Regarding the immediate future of the 26-year-old, Fritz acknowledged that there is interest in Schmid, but stopped short of revealing which clubs are involved.
"I can confirm that talks are currently underway," he stated. "There is interest in him [Schmid], but I will not comment on names or clubs. There are matters to discuss. We have to wait and see how things develop over the next few days."

Schmid has established himself as a key part of Bremen's squad since joining the club from RB Salzburg in 2019, making more than 150 Bundesliga appearances for the Green-Whites.
Most recently, he starred for Austria at this summer's FIFA World Cup, scoring an eye-catching goal in the group stages against Jordan. The attacker remains under contract with Bremen until June 2027.
