"Christian Pulisic a role model for young Americans" - Tyler Adams

RB Leipzig's Tyler Adams says recent Chelsea signing Christian Pulisic has been a role model for young Americans, and expects more of his promising compatriots to head to Germany in the seasons to come.

Pulisic, now 20, spent three seasons in the Borussia Dortmund first team after graduating from their youth academy in 2016, and has since been followed to the Bundesliga by the likes of Leipzig's Adams, Weston McKennie at Schalke and Josh Sargent at Werder Bremen.

Adams had already enjoyed a meteoric rise with New York Red Bulls, turning professional at 16 and making his full USA debut while still playing for his local club. The midfielder didn't hesitate to swap the Big Apple for Saxony in January, though, and Pulisic was part of the reason why.

"Christian being here the longest, I've had good conversations with him about what it's like and what you'll endure here and whatnot and you know, the same with Weston," he explained in an exclusive interview with DAZN.

"These guys have been tremendous friends to me and support guys for me and talking to them constantly - being on the same time schedule as them - you can always reach out to them, which has been good."

Five of the US team who made it the quarter-finals of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland in June - including top scorer Sebastian Soto and promising Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards - now ply their trade in Germany. For Adams, it's the place to be.

"[Pulisic's] confidence in his own abilities, to come here and be successful, to live on his own at such a young age, learn a new language, it's the same as we're all doing, just at a later age," he said. "He's a role model for a lot of young Americans."

A groin injury means that Adams will not join Pulisic and McKennie as the senior USMNT look to defend their CONCACAF Gold Cup title in the United States, Costa Rica and Jamaica this summer, but he's confident they can still win without him.

"Obviously our aim is to win the Gold Cup," he said. "We won the last one so to be back-to-back champions would be amazing."

The USMNT will kick off their campaign against Guyana on Wednesday, while Adams will look to be fit in time for Leipzig's pre-season friendlies against FC Zürich and Aston Villa in July and August respectively.
