Borussia Dortmund unveil limited-edition anniversary kit
Borussia Dortmund have announced the upcoming release of a special-edition anniversary kit to commemorate the 100-year history of their former home, the Rote Erde stadium.
Dortmund’s latest release is a black shirt with sandstone-coloured detailing that draws on key design elements of that historic venue. Likewise, the goalkeeper kit sports the same colour wave, albeit in reverse.
The sandstone colour scheme is inspired by the distinctive walls that have framed the Rote Erde since it was first opened back in 1926.
Similarly, the pattern embossed onto the shirt plays on that shared nostalgia, the design evoking the stadium’s two main entrance gates, and especially the famous Marathon Gate. Details on the sleeves and collar also make reference to the athletics track that runs around the outside of the pitch.
To round off the special features, adorned on the back of the shirt’s neckline is the inscription “100 Jahre Stadion Rote Erde”, which translates as “100 years of the Rote Erde stadium”.
Although Die Schwarzgelben moved out of the Rote Erde all the way back in 1974, after their current home - the Westfalenstadion – was built right alongside it, the ground continues to play a big role within the club’s culture.

Borussia first laid claim to that hallowed turf back in 1926, though nowadays, the century-old stadium, which now lies in the shadow of Signal Iduna Park, accommodates both the U23 side and the BVB women’s team. One way or another, Dortmund history endures at the Rote Erde.
The kit will go on sale on 19 March and will be available in the club’s official store and in individual fan shops. Alongside the kits themselves, an adjacent collection will also be released.
Dortmund will don this limited-edition strip two days later for their Matchday 27 home encounter against Hamburg, as they look to continue their charge towards UEFA Champions League football next term.
The kit will also be worn by the women’s team against Recklinghausen on 22 March, and by the legends’ side in their meeting with Benfica on 25 March.
