Borussia Dortmund sign Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk
Borussia Dortmund have signed Konstantinos Karetsas from Genk in Belgium, with the highly rated Greece international teenager penning a long-term contract until June 2031.
Karetsas, 18, was the second-best provider in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League last season with 11 assists for Genk, also setting up five more and scoring two in the team’s run to the UEFA Europa League round of 16, where they lost 5-2 on aggregate to Freiburg.
Dortmund managing director of sports Lars Ricken said: "With Kos, we’re adding a player to Borussia Dortmund who, at just 18 years old, already possesses tremendous talent. We’re thrilled that we were able to get him excited about our vision, and from the very first moment of our discussions, we could tell that Kos is eager to join BVB."
The left-footed attacking midfielder was born in Genk and came through at his hometown club, also having a spell in Anderlecht’s academy between 2020 and 2023. He made his debut in Belgium’s second division as a 15-year-old with Jong Genk and then his top-tier debut at 16 years and eight months in July 2024.
Karetsas said: “Borussia Dortmund is a special club, and I’m incredibly proud to now be able to wear the Black and Yellow jersey. I’m really looking forward to getting to know my players and soon playing in front of our fans in this impressive stadium. I want to do my part to ensure that we’re successful together.”
Although born and raised in Belgium, playing for the country’s youth teams up to U21 level, Karetsas opted to represent his parents’ nation of Greece and made his senior debut in March 2025 against Scotland. He has three goals in 10 appearances.
The 18-year-old will join up with his new Dortmund teammates ahead of their remaining pre-season friendlies against Arsenal and Roma before they kick off the 2026/27 season in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup at home to Bayern Munich on 22 August.
