Borussia Dortmund defender Luca Reggiani signs long-term professional contract
Italian defender Luca Reggiani has committed his long-term future to Borussia Dortmund, signing his first professional contract with the Bundesliga club.
Reggiani's first pro deal is reward for a string of impressive performances with the Dortmund first team. The 18-year-old has made four league appearances in recent weeks, including two starts. The BVB U19s captain even wrote his name into the history books as the German top tier's youngest Italian goalscorer on Matchday 26.
"Luca has made great progress, not just in recent weeks but over the past few months," said sporting director Sebastian Kehl. "There's a lot of potential in Luca, and we'll support him in releasing that. We're delighted by his first steps in professional football."
Reggiani joined the Dortmund youth set-up from Sassuolo's U17 side in January 2024. After helping the U17s win the 2023/24 league title, the teenager stepped up to play for the U19s and reserves before making his first senior appearance in a Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg on 7 February this year. The Italy youth international was handed his full debut 10 days later, in BVB's UEFA Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Atalanta.
"We were completely convinced by Luca's abilities when we won him over two years ago," added CEO Lars Ricken. "We've been working consistently with him since then, leading Luca from our U17s to the first team. The reward for Luca's development was his senior debut a few weeks ago. We want to continue that success."

The teenager himself said: "I'm really happy. When I came to BVB two years ago, it was my dream to play at Signal Iduna Park. I'll now keep training hard every day, listen to those who help me to improve and always give my best."
Building for the future, Dortmund recently signed midfield lynchpin Felix Nmecha to a new deal, keeping him at the club until June 2030.
Head coach Niko Kovač, meanwhile, put pen to paper on a contract extension through to summer 2027 in the early part of the 2025/26 campaign.
