Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala back on song
Fit-again Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is playing with a smile on his face once again after opening the scoring against Bodø/Glimt as Germany’s record champions raised the curtain on their UEFA Champions League campaign.
After one previous substitute appearance across all competitions in 2026/27, Musiala starred on his first start of the season.
Against a well-organised Bodø defence in the first half, Bayern’s No.10 grew in confidence as the game advanced, carving notable shooting opportunities for himself, as well as bringing teammates into play before breaking the deadlock shortly after the break.
The 23-year-old’s half-volley - his 70th goal in Bayern colours - following Harry Kane’s blocked effort in the 47th minute sent Vincent Kompany’s charges on their way to a 5-0 thrashing of their Norwegian counterparts.
After being substituted in the 65th minute, Musiala cut a delighted figure, running into the arms of Kompany with a beaming grin. “The goal made me really happy,” he told DAZN after the final whistle. “It was a great moment.
“I’m happy to be back in rhythm. I received a lot of support from the coaching staff and the team. Now I want to get back to my level, step by step, have fun again and get back to my best,” he expressed.
When asked what percentage of fitness he is at, Musiala explained: “It’s hard to say, but the feeling I had is one I haven’t had for a while.”
Clearly ecstatic for Musiala, Kompany added: “I and 75,000 people, and probably even more in front of the television were delighted by that.
“We knew this moment would come. He scored a really important goal.”
Next up, Kompany’s Bayern continue their title defence against newly promoted Elversberg - in Germany’s top flight for the first time - who are two for two, but it’s unclear as to whether Musiala will make successive starts.
