Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund signs new deal
Bayern Munich have extended sporting director Christoph Freund's contract until 30 June 2029, the record champions have confirmed.
The 49-year-old joined Bayern from Red Bull Salzburg in summer 2023 and has been part of a period in which the Bavarian giants have won two Bundesliga titles and the 2025/26 DFB Cup.
"I am very happy to be able to continue contributing to the further development of FC Bayern in the future. FC Bayern are one of the greatest clubs in the world, and for me, this role has become a labour of love ever since I started here," Freund said. "Together, we've embarked on an exciting journey, and we still have a lot planned for the future."
"When he joined FC Bayern in 2023, we expected him not only to provide important impetus for our professional team, but also to bring a fresh perspective to youth development and the integration between the professional team and the academy," commented Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. "He has more than lived up to our expectations, and we look forward to continuing to develop our entire sports organisation together with him."
Board member for sport Max Eberl added: "I'm very pleased that Christoph will continue to work with all of us on the sporting direction of FC Bayern. Christoph is a valuable member of our team and a key point of contact in the sporting department, from the professional players and staff all the way to the FC Bayern Campus."
