Bayern welcomed Freiburg to the Allianz Arena looking to bounce back after dropping their first points of the season in a 2-2 draw with Union Berlin before the international break. Despite that result, Vincent Kompany's side came into the match with an astonishing 434-day run as table leaders, equaling their own Bundesliga record from 1972-73. The hosts made some surprising changes to their line-up, with teenage sensation Lennart Karl and youngsters Tom Bischof and Aleksandar Pavlović starting in place of the more experienced Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Konrad Laimer.

Freiburg stun Allianz Arena with two-goal lead

The match began amid a silent protest from both sets of fans regarding stadium security measures, but Freiburg were making all the noise on the pitch. Julian Schuster's well-drilled side, known for their set-piece prowess, took a surprise lead in the 12th minute when Yuito Suzuki hammered home from close range after Matthias Ginter cleverly flicked on Niklas Beste's corner. Five minutes later, lightning struck twice as another Beste corner found Johan Manzambi, who outjumped the Bayern defence to power a header past Manuel Neuer, stunning the home crowd as Freiburg raced into a two-goal lead.

Bayern fight back before the break

Bayern needed a response and it came through their youngest player. Seventeen-year-old Karl, making only his third Bundesliga start, showed remarkable composure in the 22nd minute when he controlled Olise's pass and fired past Noah Atubolu to halve the deficit.

The goal energised Bayern, who began to dominate possession and pin Freiburg back. Just when it seemed the visitors might take their lead into half-time, Olise struck in added time. Karl turned provider, setting up the Frenchman who unleashed a powerful shot that Atubolu couldn't keep out despite getting a hand to it.

Champions take control after the break

Bayern picked up where they left off after the interval as Karl had an effort ruled out for offside. Their dominance was rewarded in the 55th minute when Dayot Upamecano volleyed home from Olise's corner to complete the comeback.

The floodgates were beginning to open, and five minutes later Harry Kane extended the lead with a clinical left-footed finish from the edge of the box. Freiburg attempted to stem the tide with a triple substitution, but Bayern were in full flow.

Bayern run riot in the closing stages

Despite losing the influential Karl to injury, Bayern continued their onslaught. His replacement Nicolas Jackson got on the scoresheet in the 78th minute, receiving Olise's precise pass before finishing coolly past Atubolu.

Olise, having already contributed to four goals, wasn't finished yet. In the 84th minute, he curled a magnificent left-footed strike into the far corner from outside the box to make it 6-2.

It capped a remarkable turnaround for Bayern, who maintain their position at the top of the Bundesliga, eight points clear of the chasing pack, and stay unbeaten 18 competitive games into 2025/26.

Man of the Match: Michael Olise

In a match full of outstanding performances, Olise stood head and shoulders above the rest. The Frenchman was directly involved in five of Bayern's six goals, scoring twice and providing three assists in what was arguably his finest display since joining from Crystal Palace. His equaliser before half-time changed the momentum of the match, and his pinpoint corner set up Upamecano's crucial go-ahead goal.

Olise's vision and passing were exceptional throughout, culminating in a beautiful curling finish to round off the scoring. With eight shots, 18 challenges won and the highest pass efficiency rating of any player, this was a complete performance that showcased why Bayern invested in his talents.
