North takes on south in the curtain-raiser: the 61st season of the Bundesliga will begin on Friday, 18 August 2023 at 8:30 p.m. CEST with SV Werder Bremen against FC Bayern München at the wohninvest Weserstadion in Bremen.
This will be the 113th Bundesliga fixture between the two teams – no other two clubs have played each other more times in the 60-year history of the German top flight.
The new Bundesliga 2 season begins three weeks earlier on Friday, 28 July 2023, when Hamburger SV host FC Schalke 04 at the Volksparkstadion from 8:30 p.m. CEST.
The exact dates and times of fixtures for Bundesliga Matchdays 1-8 will be announced between 10-14 July. For Bundesliga 2, the precise fixture list for Matchdays 1-2 will be announced next week (3-7 July), and then for Matchdays 3-10 together with the first Bundesliga fixtures in the week commencing 10 July. Further announcements regarding the matchday schedules will be made over the course of the season, depending on, among other things, the involvement of the clubs in international competitions and in the DFB-Pokal, Germany’s national cup competition.
The Supercup between Bundesliga Champion FC Bayern München and DFB-Pokal winner RB Leipzig will be held at Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday, 12 August 2023 (8:45 p.m. CEST).
