Watch: Nmecha's stunning strike

Nmecha's second goal against Paderborn has to be seen to be believed.

Full-time: Borussia Dortmund 3-0 Paderborn

Dortmund pick up all three points, mainly thanks to a late brace from Nmecha. Silva had given BVB the lead early on, before Guirassy had two efforts chalked off for offside. Paderborn began to grow into the game and were within a goal until the final 10 minutes, when substitute Nmecha produced two great finishes - the second of which is an early goal of the season contender - to add gloss to the scoreline.

Incredible!

A stunning strike from Nmecha wraps up the points! It is an acrobatic effort, as he scissors Beier's cross into the back of the net.

That should be that!

Dortmund finally have their goal, and on this occasion, there is nothing Noll can do. It is a lovely finish from the substitute, firing across the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

Kick-off!

Half-time: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Paderborn

Dortmund are deservedly in front at the break. Silva had the ball in the back of the net inside five minutes to give Dortmund the advantage, and Guirassy did so twice later on. However, both of the Guinea international's strikes came from offside positions, meaning BVB only lead by one at the interval.

Guirassy has his goal... or does he?

Just before the break, BVB appear to have dealt a hammer blow to Paderborn as Guirassy nods home from close range. Again, though, he is in an offside position when doing so and the goal is chalked off.

Paderborn with the better chances

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
But it is BVB who lead.

Trying to find an answer

Paderborn are trying to find a way back into the game but are struggling to do so up until now.

Fierce cross

There is plenty on a Ryerson ball into the box, meaning Noll can only punch. However, he does a good job and averts any danger.

Change in play

With the lead, Dortmund are now seeing plenty of the ball and are moving it well.

Denied

A chance for Veerman, who volleys towards goal after Noll only half-clears. It takes a deflection, but the Paderborn goalkeeper still makes a fantastic stop to keep the Netherlands international out.

Celebrating with Nmecha

Silva made a beeline for the Germany international, who is on the bench today, after finding the back of the net.

Just like that!

Dortmund had looked sluggish in the opening stages, but within the blink of an eye they are in front! Guirassy's through ball is perfectly into Silva's path, and he makes no mistake after driving towards goal.

Debut patches

Both Veerman and Nwaneri will have the debut patch on their shirts this afternoon as they make their first Bundesliga starts!

Schlotterbeck is back

The central defender is straight into the starting line-up in what is his first appearance since the injury he suffered in Germany's clash with Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup in the summer. Kovač will be delighted to have him back and available once again.

Dortmund team news

Niko Kovač, meanwhile, makes four changes to the side that beat Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek. Elsewhere, Beier, Sabitzer and Karetsas drop out, with Bellingham, Silva and Nwaneri coming in.

Watch: More from Kovač on the game

Niko Kovač on facing Paderborn

“There are no easy games in the Bundesliga. You have to play them in a way that puts you right in the game from the start. That’s why I want my lads to come out strong from the first minute and get our fans back behind us as quickly as possible so we can play successful football.”

Ralf Kettemann on facing Dortmund

"We want to be versatile, not just sit back and defend. We're going there to win the game. We mustn't be intimidated; after our recent performances, we must believe in ourselves and that we can put up a fight there, too."

Karetsas update

One player who definitely won't be involved in this game is Konstantinos Karetsas after he was taken to hospital with circulatory issues on Tuesday. Sporting director Ole Book provided an update on Thursday: "He's doing well under the circumstances. Further examinations are underway, and we want to get to the bottom of the matter."

Schlotterbeck to return?

Niko Kovač had good news on Thursday as he confirmed that both Nico Schlotterbeck and Ramy Bensebaini are in full training following their injuries and are available to face Paderborn. "I can count on both of them," the coach happily stated.

Guirassy strikes again

Dortmund continued their winning run on Tuesday night as they kicked off the league phase of the UEFA Champions League with a 3-2 victory at home to Villarreal. Guirassy netted twice again, plus a late own goal.

Goal-rassy leading charge

Guirassy has scored in both of Dortmund’s games and had a hand in three of their five goals as BVB earned six points for the first time since 2022/23.

Winless record

Paderborn have never beaten Dortmund before, but do have two draws in four Bundesliga meetings.
