Full-time: Bayern 0-1 Bremen

It's all over! Werder Bremen's players drop to their knees in exhaustion, their arms raised in victory. What a performance from Ole Werner's side, who extend their unbeaten run to five games with a huge scalp. Mitchell Weiser's super second-half strike leaves Bayern in a spot of bother in the Bundesliga table, the defending champions seven points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen with a game in hand.

Tel so close!

Tel jinks one way and then the other inside the Bremen box. The forward then pings a shot narrowly wide. Is that it?

Choupo-Moting header

Müller with a cross to the back stick this time. Choupo-Moting heads down and wide. Zetterer had that well covered.
+ 2

Goretzka chance

Unsurprisingly, it's a siege on the Bremen goal now. Laimer crosses from the right, Goretzka rises high and pounds a header just over.

Off the post!

Choupo-Moting plays a super pass to the back stick. Tel heads at goal from the left but a combination of Zetterer and the post keep Bayern at bay. One more top save from the Bremen custodian. Soon afterwards, Tel smacks a shot inches wide.

Record ending?

The last time Bayern failed to score at home in the Bundesliga was four years ago against RB Leipzig. That game on February 9, 2020 ended 0-0.

Changes ...

Choupo-Moting replaces Coman for the closing stages. Meanwhile, Kownacki is on for Schmid for Werder.

Weiser challenge

This has developed into one of those heroic, backs-to-the-wall style endings to this game from Bremen. Goalscorer Mitchell Weiser makes a huge challenge to deny Coman inside the area.

Zetterer again

Bayern corner. Sané takes. The ball bounces up off Kane and just as it appears the striker is about to head at goal, Zetterer flies out to slap the ball out of play.

Zetterer to the rescue

Sané lashes in a very dangerous, dipping shot that Zetterer pushes away. Musiala is prowling on the follow up but Werder hack clear.

Chances coming

The tension is palpable inside the Allianz Arena. Will Bayern take advantage of one of these chances or can Werder hold out? Thomas Müller lashes wide with the latest opportunity.

De Ligt cautioned

Njinmah looks to escape but De Ligt cuts the Werder player down. Yellow card for the Dutch defender.

Desperate defending

A Bayern set-piece. Kane heads across the face and three Werder players desperately swing at the ball in the hope of clearing, which is the eventual outcome.

Schmid booked

Schmid slices down Musiala and that's a booking for the Werder man.

Can they?

Bremen last beat Bayern back in 2008 while Bayern are unbeaten in their last 32 games in all competitions against the Green-Whites. Can the visitors hold on for what would be a shock victory?

Borré on

Sensing some more counter-attacking opportunities, Werder have brought Rafael Borré into the game.

Triple change

The urgency has ratcheted up several notches for the hosts and the situation has signalled three changes with Tel, Müller and Goretzka all coming on for Bayern.

Bremen in dreamland!

What a goal this is from Mitchell Weiser! Bremen's No. 8 is way out on the right but decides to cut in. He beats Davies all ends up before smashing a shot high past Neuer at the near post! Scenes in Munich!

Davies wins race

Njinmah threatens to burst away, until Davies flies in to rescue the situation. Two of the fastest players on the pitch in direct competition there.

Pass masters

Bayern are pinging it about with confidence in the final third now. There's still no way through for the hosts, however.

Kane effort

Sané plays a pass for Musiala, who backheels for Kane on the D. The Bundesliga's top scorer smashes his first shot at goal in this game. Zetterer watches the ball flash just over.

Can they score?

Bayern have netted in their last 65 home games in the Bundesliga. Can the hosts find a breakthrough here?

Zetterer in control

Guerriero knocks a pass over to Musiala, who is in position to take this one into the area. Zetterer comes out of his box, gathers, then releases knowing his slide is about to take him outside the area. Musiala looks to pounce but Zetterer recovers well and the danger passes.

Leroy Sané gets the second half underway.

Half-time: Bayern 0-0 Werder

Some whistle as the teams head in for half-time but that's credit to Werder, who have worked their socks off here, and not just in their efforts to keep Bayern at bay. Manuel Neuer has had to pull off a sensational stop while Ole Werner's men also had a goal ruled out during a frustrating half for the hosts.
+ 2

Werder hungry

Schmid sends a left-footed effort high over the crossbar.

Stage off target

Romano Schmid's whipped free kick to the near post is nodded over by Jens Stage. Half time is approaching and we'll have four added minutes here.

Kane watch

The Bundesliga's top scorer has only had the ball four times and has failed to have a shot on goal thus far. Werder have been keeping Bayern's super striker under control up until now.

Running men

Speed on the break could be a key factor in any opening goal here and Davies, along with Njinmah, have been the fastest for either side to date.

Kimmich in the zone

Another lovely ball from Kimmich's wand of a right foot and Musiala sees his header deflected off target.

Top contest

Werder have given as good as they've received - and sometimes more - at the Allianz Arena so far today and it's all made to make this a very unpredictable game.

Chances increasing

The game has really opened up now and we're seeing more big chances as a result.

Bayern counter

Sané surges into the Werder area before tumbling. The ball reaches ... Upamecano?! who slams at goal from a tight angle. Zetterer makes the block with his chest.

No goal

Werder are denied a goal following a VAR check. Njinmah waltzed through on the counter before slamming past Neuer at his near post. There was a foul by Stage on Musiala in the build up, however.

What a save!

Neuer pulls off a stretching, finger-tipped classic stop from a wickedly deflected Weiser effort. That was a superb save.

Kimmich warned

Kimmich's studs sting Schmid's foot and that's a booking for the Bayern man.

Bayern claim

Coman engineers something up top for Bayern and suddenly Guerreiro is tumbling inside the area with his arms raised. The home shouts go up but the referee says nothing doing.

Weiser on the move

Mitchell Weiser embarks on a a lovely run and the home fans let their impatience known. Werder are looking very threatening on the counter while Bayern have yet to click. Weiser's pass hits Njinmah's heel and the move breaks down.

Upamecano alert

Weiser feeds Woltemade, who is muscled out by Upamecano when very well placed inside the area. Really important challenge from the Bayern defender there.

Big Werder chance

What a chance this is for the Green-Whites! The lively Njinmah finds Jens Stage in space and suddenly the Danish midfielder only has Neuer in front of him. Stage's shot is saved by the Bayern captain. Stage panicked a bit there. Coach Ole Werner throws his hands to his head.

First shot

Kane angles one in to the onrushing Sané, who shoots low first time. Michael Zetterer deals with that effort with relative ease.

Bayern get going

Sané to Kane to Musiala to Laimer: Bayern pop it about just outside the Werder area but nothing comes of the build-up, which initially looked promising.

Njinmah threatening

Justin Njinmah looks like he's burst clear of the Bayern defence and is on his way towards goal. The assistant's raised flag brings that Werder move to an end.

Game on!

Werder Bremen kick off this Matchday 18 game at a packed Allianz Arena!

Coin toss

Bremen with the first victory of the day as they win the coin toss. The visitors get into a huddle for a last-minute pep talk.

Beckenbauer tribute

Wonderful to see so many scarves adorning the name of Franz Beckenbauer raised by fans inside the Allianz Arena. It's been an emotional fortnight around these parts, and indeed across the footballing world, since Der kaiser's passing.

Teams in tunnel

As the Bayern anthem begins, the teams gather in the tunnel at the Allianz Arena. We're not far from kick-off now.

Kane determined

It's 22 goals in 16 Bundesliga games for Harry Kane, 26 in 23 in all competitions. England's record striker looked fully focused in the warm-up ahead of this game as he aims to add to his phenomenal tallies today.

Young guns

Ole Werner is sending out Werder's youngest side since the team won promotion in 2022. Die Grün-Weißen have an average age of 26.4 years.

Kimmich in command

Amazingly, Joshua Kimmich - who is once again in Bayern's starting line-up today - has faced Werder Bremen 14 times in the Bundesliga and has won every time!

Eric Dier on the bench

Bayern's new English arrival is among the subs for the first time today and if he comes on, it could be a Bundesliga first as two Englishmen have never played together for FCB in a German top-flight game.

Bayern team news

The reigning champions are relieved that defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano have made it into today's team after the pair complained of respective niggles during the club's recent training camp. Elsewhere, Kingsley Coman replaces Thomas Müller, who drops to the bench. Serge Gnabry hasn't yet recovered from a hamstring complaint while Noussair Mazraoui and Minjae Kim are on international duty.

Bremen team news

Werder are without their top scorer Marvin Ducksch, who is suspended. It's the first time the striker is missing a Bundesliga game since the Green-Whites won promotion in 2022. Leonardo Bittencourt is also serving a ban while Rafael Borré drops to the bench. Senne Lynen, Romano Schmid and Nick Woltemade are all in from the get-go for the visitors.

Neuer focused

Speaking to Bayern's official website at the team's training camp in Faro this week, Manuel Neuer pointed to the importance of today's game against Werder in the title race: "This is another match we're required to win," the goalkeeper said. "I think it's crucial that we don't let anything slip because we're still second in the table. We have to try and take things as far as possible, starting with three points [against Bremen]."

Watch: Bayern Munich bid farewell to “Kaiser” Franz Beckenbauer

At the memorial service in honour of the late Franz Beckenbauer at Bayern's Allianz Arena on Friday, numerous friends and colleagues bade farewell to "Der Kaiser" of German football in a moving ceremony.

Watch: Harry Kane on record tear

Harry Kane has been on fire for Bayern Munich, scoring a Europe-leading 22 goals across his first 16 Bundesliga matches of the 2023/24 season.

Tuchel's view on Bremen

"We're expecting a back five from Bremen, like Hoffenheim. We'll prepare for that. It's obviously a classic fixture that had a huge allure when I was a kid. There's always a special energy and lots of goals. Bremen have a special way of playing, always looking to attack. But it's the start of the second half of the season, so there's a lack of video footage and we're focusing on ourselves."

Werner's view on Bayern

"You're aware of the challenge ahead of you when you play in Munich. You've got to be prepared to have less of the possession. Bayern simply have more individual quality and pace than the rest of the league. We have to use the space on the pitch and defend well. We also need Bayern to not be at their absolute best."

Probable line-ups

Who’s set to play this weekend? Who’s going to miss out? Keep up to date with all the latest team news right here!

Bayern team news

Thomas Tuchel, meanwhile, may also have some issues to contend with. Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt needed to sit out training and could therefore be unavailable, and Serge Gnabry is not yet ready to return to the fold as he continues his recovery. Noussair Mazraoui and Kim Minjae are also unavailable - they are representing Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations and South Korea at the Asian Cup respectively.

Bremen team news

Ole Werner will be without several players for this tough task. Ducksch will be joined by Leonardo Bittencourt, who is also suspended, on the sidelines, while Naby Keïta is representing Guinea at the Africa Cup of Nations. Elsewhere, Amos Pieper continues to recover from a broken ankle and will therefore also be absent.

Watch: Eric Dier's unveiling at Bayern

There's a new guy in town! Have a look at how the England international was introduced as Bayern's newest arrival.

Bremen without Ducksch

Marvin Ducksch has not hit the same heights as Kane, but his contribution to Bremen cannot be underestimated. His seven goals and four assists seem him lead the way for his side in both departments. He will be a big miss in Munich, as he is unavailable due to suspension.

Kane on course for history

To say Harry Kane has settled quickly into Bundesliga life would be something of an understatement. The 30-year-old had already hit the back of the net 26 times in 23 games for the club in all competitions, netting 22 in 16 in the Bundesliga. As such, he has Robert Lewandowski's single-season league record of 41 goals in his sights, and he is on course to beat it by six!

In recent years, Bayern have very much enjoyed playing against Bremen. Die Werderaner are without a victory in their last 33 games against Der Rekordmeister in all competitions, and have lost a remarkable 26 of the previous 27 meetings. You have to go back to 2008 for Bremen's last triumph, a 5-2 league victory at the Allianz Arena. They will be hoping to end the drought with a memorable win here.

De Ligt and Upamecano injured

While Bayern were able to enjoy the comparatively warm weather, it hasn't been plain sailing. Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt picked up injuries during training, leaving Die Roten light at centre-back. Eric Dier, who was getting to know his new teammates out in Portugal before leaving the camp to attend the birth of his first child, may well be required to jump straight into the side.

Bayern enjoy mini Portugal break

Following their 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim on Matchday 17, Bayern flew to Faro in the Algarve to enjoy a spot of warm-weather training. They will be there until Thursday, with head coach Thomas Tuchel explaining that the trip gives the squad the opportunity to train in more detail.

Watch: Werder Bremen 0-4 Bayern Munich

Harry Kane stole the headlines as Bayern made a winning start to the 2023/24 season in Bremen, scoring his first goal for his new club and providing an assist. Leroy Sané also struck twice to kickstart what has become a fabulous season for the German international.

Watch: Bayern Munich 3-0 Hoffenheim

Jamal Musiala struck twice and Harry Kane smashed his 22nd goal of the season in the final minutes as Bayern took their third successive Bundesliga win on an emotional evening in Munich devoted to the memory of Franz Beckenbauer.

Watch: Bochum 1-1 Werder Bremen

Niklas Stark's stunning stoppage-time strike rescued a point for Werder in Bochum. They remain 13th in the table but are now unbeaten in four Bundesliga matches.
