WATCH: OSEI-TUTU: "A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION"
Bochum have their first point of the season but it was almost more. The hosts led via Schmitz's own goal early on but Maina's drilled finish at the end rescued a point for Cologne. On the balance of play, a draw seems a fair result.
Nikola Soldo at the death! The ball lands at the defender's feet right in front of goal but he's leaning back and lashes over the crossbar. What a chance that was.
TIME ADDED ON
There will be five minutes of added time here.

Bochum hearts are broken at the death. The ball breaks to Maina inside the area and he batters a low shot through Riemann and into the corner of the net.
Cologne are throwing everything at this now. A corner from the right sees Dietz connect but Riemann gets enough on the ball to block out the chance.
DIETZ OFF TARGET
Cologne sub Dietz heads well over the top and the Bochum fans are beginning to sense that this might just be their day.
Sargis Adamyan thwacks a shot against the Bochum post. The hosts then counter and Hofmann drills a low left-footed shot wide of the upright.
RIEMANN TO BOCHUM'S RESCUE
Maina's shot from the left is palmed wide by Riemann. We've had our first shot on target from Cologne.
Stöger slides in and connects to send a shot goalwards ... Schwäbe saves but the referee has spotted an infringement in the build up.
Look away now if you're a Bochum fan, for fear we might be tempting fate. The last time the hosts kept a clean sheet in the Bundesliga was on April 10 last, in a scoreless draw against Bayer Leverkusen.
What a save Manuel Riemann! Maina was offside so this wouldn't have counted but applause is due for that clawed-out stop from the Bochum custodian who denied the Cologne man from point-blank range.
CLASH OF HEADS
Schmitz and Osei-Tutu have a clash of heads and both go down in a lot of pain. A little treatment and both are back to their feet. It looks like this is the end of Schmitz's day anyway ....
Hofmann leathers a shot at goal from way out and looks on with a frown as the ball flies harmlessly wide.
The frustration is showing in the Cologne ranks now, as the visitors pass the ball around with little or no incision. It may be time for a change for the Billy-Goats.
Stöger argues with the ref about the placement of the ball for a corner kick. The Bochum man eventually takes the set piece and when the ball makes its way back to him, he smashes a shot wide of the target.
Osei-Tutu fails to beat the offside trap but has a go at goal nonetheless and draws a save from Marvin Schwäbe.
Kevin Stöger's free kick from the left lands all the way out at the feet of Simon Zoller, whose shot is blocked.
Jordi Osei-Tutu has come on for Gerrit Holtmann for the second half.
WE'RE BACK UNDERWAY
Cologne get us moving again in the second half ...
BOCHUM IN FRONT AT HT
Bochum lead by a goal at the break, Schmitz putting through his own net in the opening ten minutes. After six defeats on the bounce, the hosts are half way to ending that unwanted run.
SO CLOSE SKHIRI
Ellyes Skhiri ! Well, well, well. The Cologne No. 28 is completely free at the back stick but just can't control a whipped set piece right to him. That looked like being the equaliser. Bochum survive again.
COLOGNE IN POSSESSION
Cologne have enjoyed 58 per cent of the ball in this game so far, yet Bochum boast a more important stat here.
KAINZ EYES GOAL
Ooooh. Kainz lets rip with a right footer from distance and he catches it sweetly. The ball fizzes wide.
HECTOR OFF TARGET
Cologne corner, Hector heads well wide. The rain is falling steadily here as Steffen Baumgart's side try to find a way through.

COLOGNE'S EARLY HEADACHES
Cologne went behind early doors for the third time this season. The Billy-Goats were a goal down after just two minutes against Wolfsburg two weeks ago while they went behind in the third minute against Union Berlin last time out.
BOCHUM GO CLOSE
The hosts hit the post! So, so close for Bochum who are inches away from 2-0 when Holtmann rattles the woodwork with a power strike.
Going back to that Benno Schmitz o.g., it was the first time the 27-year-old put past his own 'keeper while he has never managed to score at the other end.
Cologne, unsurprisingly, have responded to going behind and almost nick an equaliser after Nikola Soldo meets Hector's set piece. But wait. There was an offside in there.
BOCHUM IN FRONT
Bochum lead! The ball in from Holtmann on the left causes all sorts of confusion for the visitors. Hector slides and knocks it against his teammate Schmitz, who deflects in. The home fans erupt!
Kainz! Well, this looked like the opener. The ball falls to the Cologne man on the left but a superb tackle from Gamboa saves Bochum's bacon.
GAMBOA ON THE HUNT
Gamboa again. This time the full back thwacks an effort at the target but the ball floats high and wide. Decent start from VfL.
Slow start to this one as both teams try to ease into the game. Gamboa lifts one into the mixer but nothing doing for the hosts.
The ball is rolling at the Vonovia-Ruhrstadion !
So, it's been six games and six defeats for Bochum in the Bundesliga. Will the hosts finally halt that slide today? They face a Cologne side brimming with confidence and one that hasn't lost to a bottom-placed Bundesliga team for 11 years.
COLOGNE'S AWAY JOY

"LESS TALKING, MORE DOING"
Bochum have brought in the club's Under-19 coach, Heiko Butscher, for today's game after Thomas Reis was dismissed last week. Here's what VfL's interim boss said ahead of his side's crucial encounter: "I wanted to put down a marker that there’s not always a need to talk. It’s important to make conversations [of course]. We spoke a lot about how we are planning to perform on Sunday. But, my plan this week was less talking, more doing."
THE SEASON SO FAR
Cologne dropped to seventh after their 1-0 loss to Union. They also have Thursday's UEFA Europa Conference League meeting with Slovacko to factor into their preparations. Needless to say Bochum will be hoping for a continental hangover. They've conceded a league-high 18 goals, scored a league low four and are the worst finishers (-3.8 per xG).
Cologne's unbeaten start to 2022/23 was ended at the hands of high-flying Union Berlin last weekend. Can the Billy Goats bounce straight back against rock-bottom Bochum, who - pointless after six games - parted ways with head coach Thomas Reis following the derby loss to Schalke. Stay tuned!
