The visitors start with nine players who played a key role in their promotion last season to Bundesliga 2. Of their new signings, only new number 1 Krumrey and winger Faber feature in the starting XI, both bringing second-division experience with them. Krumrey made 22 appearances in Bundesliga 2 for Holstein Kiel last season, while Faber turned out 23 times for Dynamo Dresden in 2025/26.

Nine players from Heidenheim's starting XI played Bundesliga football for the club last season - six of whom were also in the starting line-up on matchday 34 against Mainz. Mhamdi and Costly, both signed from third-tier clubs, are the only new faces to have made it into Schmidt's starting line-up.

Meet Heidenheim's goal-getter

After 18 months in the Bundesliga with Heidenheim, Zivzivadze is back and ready to make a splash in Germany’s second division once again. The Georgian has previous in this division, and was on course to finish as top scorer in 2024/25, having struck 12 goals in 17 games at Karlsruhe before joining Heidenheim in January 2025.

Heidenheim’s strong recent record

The Swabians are unbeaten in all four Bundesliga 2 meetings between the sides (W3, D1), but they only beat Osnabrück twice in eight 3. Liga encounters between 2009 and 2014. The Lower Saxony outfit have won four of the sides’ 12 matches overall, sharing the spoils on three occasions.

Tim Kleindienst - now of Borussia Mönchengladbach - was on target as Heidenheim claimed a narrow victory in the teams' most recent encounter in February 2021.
