Only after Sissoko's opener did Bochum's play become more fluid. In the end, they rewarded themselves with Holtmann's strike for a 2-0 win.

Vincent Wagner on facing Bochum

"Of course they want to start with a home win. They would have wanted that anyway, but especially now they will give it their all. It's a high-quality squad, a big team. With the stadium behind them, it will be quite a force that we'll be facing on Sunday. But we certainly aren't without a chance. For us, it's about countering with our own resources."
camera-photo

Dieter Hecking on facing Elversberg

"Elversberg have proven often enough that they should not be underestimated. They've started the season well. We need compactness, but must also develop aggression from that and defend offensively."

Not them again...

Philipp Strompf and Romario Rösch both arrived at Bochum from Ulm this summer, with the pair helping their former employers to a 3-1 victory at Elversberg last season. It was a particularly good day for Strompf, who was a rare name on the scoresheet that day.

From VfL to SVE

Elversberg summer-signing Jan Gyamerah came through the ranks at Bochum and made his first team debut for the club at just 18. He went on to make 76 senior appearances for VfL, 74 of which were in Bundesliga 2.
camera-photo

A rare first

Bochum and Elversberg have never been in the same division as each other so this will mark their first ever league meeting. They have met just once before; a 1-0 Bochum win in the second round of the DFB Cup in October 2022. Former captain Anthony Losilla, who is now on the coaching staff at Bochum, was the match-winner that day.
