Full-time: Magdeburg 3-0 Nuremberg

Magdeburg started well after the break, but had to start from scratch again after a nearly 15-minute interruption. A Zukowski goal broke the deadlock, and Lubach's sending off appeared to opened the floodgates, with Zukowski completing his brace before his replacement, Breunig, scored to make it a comfortable win for the hosts.

Double brace ruled out!

Just like Zukowski, Breunig also scores twice, or so he thought! Atik finds Bockhorn, who has just come on, on the right. He looks for and finds Breunig, who keeps his cool in the centre of the box before smashing it home, but the goal is ruled out, and the score stays at 3-0.

Long time ago

Magdeburg's only home win against Nuremberg to date was a 3-0 victory 41 years ago in the Intertoto Cup, when the goalscorers were Wolfgang "Maxe" Steinbach, Heiko Bonan and Damian Halata.

Breunig! 3-0!

The substitute seals the deal. The provider is Nollenberger again, who this time crosses from the left. The ball bounces and Nuremberg's defence fail to clear, allowing Breunig to sneak in and score.

Double blow

Within four minutes, Nuremberg's prospects have all but evaporated. Can Klose's team find a way back into the contest with ten men?

Half-time: Magdeburg 0-0 Nuremberg

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Nuremberg had the better of the early chances. However, the hosts are ahead in terms of xGoals after a couple of good sights of goal.

Nollenberger!

Now a golden opportunity for the hosts! Zukowski plays a perfect through ball into Nollenberger, who can't beat the incoming Reichert with his finish.

Magdeburg kick off and play all in blue. Nuremberg are in all red.
Kick-off!

Musonda for Ghrieb

Rayan Ghrieb moves to the bench, with Lubambo Musonda returning to the team after his yellow card suspension.

Young Franconians

With Diop coming in for Markhiev, Nuremberg's average age drops to 23 years, making today's lineup the youngest the league has seen so far this season! Magdeburg's team is almost five years older on average (27.8).

Gnaka for Hyryläinen

Silas Gnaka comes into the team for Luka Hyryläinen. Gnaka has lost his regular starting spot, making six substitute appearances this season. Gnaka has the second most Bundesliga 2 appearances for the club with 105, only behind goalkeeper Dominik Reimann.

Pressure mounting

After Braunschweig's victory earlier this afternoon, Magdeburg's are now six points adrift of the relegation play-off spot.

Diop moves into the team

Pape Demba Diop starts in place of Markhiev, though he is a completely different type of player. The Senegalese player returns to the starting line-up for the first time since Matchday 9. This is the only change that Miroslav Klose makes.

Nuremberg without Markhiev

The Club must manage without their new midfield orchestrator, Adam Markhiev. The problem: Nuremberg have only won this season when the Finn was on the pitch for at least an hour.

Breunig on the bench

While Alexander Ahl-Holmström remains sidelined and Ado Onaiwu doesn't even make the squad, Maximilian Breunig is fit again and on the bench. Magdeburg once again start without a recognised centre-forward, as Mateusz Zukowski, who was recently deployed centrally, is actually a winger by trade.

Miroslav Klose on facing Magdeburg

"The key will be that we work well as a team against the ball and where we then win possession. After that, we need to make good decisions quickly. They're fighting hard - it won't be easy, bit we have the quality."

A rare Magdeburg home win

FCM's only home win against FCN came on the international stage. In 1984, the Börde city team won 3-0 at home in the Intertoto Cup (goals: Wolfgang Steinbach, Heiko Bonan, Damian Halata). The managers at that time were Claus Kreul and Heinz Höher.
camera-photo

Nuremberg's good away record

Nuremberg have collected seven points in Magdeburg from their three second-division encounters.
camera-photo

Another away win?

Last season, this fixture saw two spectacular away victories. Magdeburg celebrated their record Bundesliga 2 win in Nuremberg (4-0, FCN's heaviest defeat under Miroslav Klose), while FCN got their revenge with a 4-3 victory at the Avnet Arena (Julian Justvan scored the winning goal in stoppage time).

Historic clubs clash

FCM against FCN, this is a duel between two historic clubs with trophy cabinets full of silverware: Nuremberg have been German champions nine times and cup winners four times, whereas Magdeburg won three championship titles and seven cups in the old GDR, and also won the European Cup Winners' Cup.
