Rohr after more than two years

That's his first goal for Elversberg - the last time Rohr scored was in April 2023 for Paderborn against Sandhausen.

A goal at last!!!

After the corner from the substitute Keidel, Rohr rises highest in the six-yard box, glancing the ball off his head at the near post and into the far corner - giving Reichert no chance to save!

No way through!

Knoche doesn't let Zimmerschied through. Both defensive lines are holding firm in the clash between Elversberg and Nuremberg.

More attacking power

Former Magdeburg player Ceka replaces Petkov for the final phase.

Ball kicked away

The Nuremberg player kicks the ball away long after Weisbach's free kick whistle and is therefore cautioned. Lubach, who committed the foul, escapes without a yellow card.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
..., but no goals so far. Although both teams have had their opportunities, both keepers have managed to keep a clean sheet thus far.

Petkov over

The Bulgarian aims too high with his left foot from 17 metres out.
82'

Active Conte

With four shots of his own and three assists - new signing Conté has been involved in seven of Elversberg's ten shots on goal.
81'

Strong-tackling Elversberg full-backs

Gyamerah and Günther have each won 75 percent of their duels, making them the strongest tacklers on the pitch. It seems Elversberg have found good successors for Neubauer and Baum.
78'

Strikers switched

The 20-year-old Congolese frontman replaces the 17-year-old Ukrainian for the remaining twelve minutes.
78'

No danger

From the subsequent corner, Telalović gets a header, but it flies well wide of the Elversberg goal and out for a goal kick.
77'

Good fight

Stepanov earns a corner with tireless effort, right in front of the travelling fans, who celebrate it loudly.
75'

Balanced shot count

There has been a total of eight shots on goal from both sides so far, with both keepers having to make three saves. In the second half, however, Elversberg are looking the more threatening side.

Wagner still has one substitution left

The hosts make two changes as they continue to push for the winning goal.
72'

Schnellbacher receives treatment

The striker caught Knoche's boot at knee height, though without any malicious intent from the Nuremberg player.
71'

The ball doesn't get through

Justvan's shot from the right at the edge of the penalty area is blocked by an Elversberg defender's leg.
69'

Lob on goal

Gruber gets to head the ball following a corner, but can't put any power behind it.
68'

Good transition play!

At the end of an Elversberg counter-attack, Petkov gets a shot away from 18 metres out on the right but blasts the ball two metres wide of the right post of the Nuremberg goal.
66'

Over!

Conté is dangerous again in the Nuremberg penalty area. After a delicate chip into his path, the 22-year-old gets a shot away with his left foot from the left but sends the ball about a metre over the crossbar.
63'

Too theatrical!

Conté goes down in the Nuremberg penalty area but was only touched very slightly on the shin. Weisbach allows play to continue.
61'

Unfortunate from Baack

The substitute slips and unfortunately slides into his opponent, and Weisbach correctly awards a free kick to Elversberg in midfield.
59'

From outside the box

Justvan's shot is not dangerous enough to pose a serious challenge for Kristof.
57'

Two new players for Nuremberg

Telalović is expected to make an impact in attack, while Baack replaces the already booked Soares.
57'

Substitution

57'

Double substitution for hosts

Coach Wagner makes two like-for-like changes.
55'

Gyamerah to Conté

The former Nuremberg player hits a low cross from a potentially offside position on the right. In the middle, Conté can only manage an uncontrolled finish as Reichert collects the ball.
53'

Reichert grabs it

The Nürnberg goalkeeper easily catches a cross from Zimmerschmied in his six-yard box.
50'

The Elversberg number ten's shot from 20 yards out is blocked by a Nuremberg defender's leg.

Nuremberg stand firm

As in the last four matches of the previous season, Nuremberg have avoided conceding a goal before half-time. Knoche has cleared almost everything (83 per cent of duels won) and new signing Lochoshvili has also made a good impression.

Half-time: Elversberg 0-0 Nuremberg

In a hard-fought match, the score remains goalless after 45 minutes. Elversberg had more possession and the best chance through Schnellbacher (41'), while Nuremberg had the better of the early opportunities. The scoreline is a fair reflection of the first half.

Biron looking for Stepanov...

but Gyamerah nicks the ball away from the Ukrainian's foot just in time after the cross from the right.
44'

Beautiful slalom run!

Zimmerschied dribbles his way from the left into the penalty area, Gruber just manages to disturb him in time as he attempts to shoot from about ten yards out.
42'

Elversberg's best chance so far!

Schnellbacher is free to finish at the edge of the six-yard box after a cross but sends the ball looping over the crossbar - partly because Gruber is nearby and puts pressure on the Elversberg striker.
39'

Hosts dominating

Wagner's team quickly win back possession of the ball and are giving the visitors little time on the ball.

Offside!

Zimmerschied had clearly strayed offside when receiving Günther's cross. His header doesn't pose much of a challenge for Reichert anyway.
36'

Nice play up front

Günther plays the ball powerfully from the wing, low across the Nürnberg goal, but Schnellbacher wasn't quick enough to reach the ball at the far post.
34'

Pinckert misses

After Zimmerschied's corner, the captain gets to the ball just in front of the goal and tries unsuccessfully to control the ball, allowing Gruber to intervene and clear it.

Every inch counts

Both teams are giving nothing away in the first 30 minutes, which is why there haven't been any big chances in Elversberg yet.

24'

Biron from 20 yards out

His left-footed shot merely rolls towards the goal guarded by Kristof.
22'

Soares receives a yellow card for a tactical foul in midfield. The referee initially waited to see if an advantage would develop, but then stopped play.

Not quite!

Stepanov misses the ball when unmarked in the penalty area.
19'

Nuremberg in the penalty area again

Justvan doesn't connect properly with the ball six metres from goal - and Kristof gathers it.
16'

Kristof with a header!

The hosts' keeper is challenged by a very risky backpass from Petkov, but successfully heads the ball into touch.
14'

Pinckert intervenes!

The centre-back just about manages to cut out Biron's through ball during a quick Nuremberg counter-attack, preventing Stepanov from getting to the ball.
12'

Stepanov burrows through...

...but gets stopped by the third Elversberg defender and therefore can't get his shot away in the penalty area.
10'

Soares crosses...

...but Rohr just manages to clear in front of Stepanov in the centre, the ball hits the 17-year-old and it's a goal kick for Elversberg.
8'

Zimmerschied from distance

The shot from the left corner of the penalty area is no problem for Reichert in the Nuremebrg goal.
7'

Too far for Zimmerschmied

The left winger fails to reach a pass from the defensive line.
6'

Noisy support

Over 1,500 fans have come to support Nuremberg and are vocally spurring their team on.
3'

First big chance!

Stepanov gets a chance to finish at the five-yard box following a corner, but doesn't connect with the ball properly - that was a lucky escape for Elversberg!

Let's go!

We're off at the Ursapharm Arena!
Kick-off!

The teams are coming out!

The 22 players enter the pitch, led by referee Eric Weisbach.

200 up for Soares in Bundesliga 2

Danilo Soares is playing his 200th match in the Bundesliga 2 (for Nürnberg, Bochum and Ingolstadt).

Stepanov's debut

Curiously, the 17-year-old loanee from Leverkusen is playing his first league match at professional level, but has already made two brief appearances for Bayer in the Champions League (last season against Prague and Salzburg)!

These are Nuremberg's new players

Despite their summer activity, Nuremberg don't look that different in terms of the starting eleven: eight players were already at the club last season, only Lochoshvili and the striking duo of Mickael Biron/Stepanov are new.

Gyamerah's last goal Elversberg

Jan Gyamerah remained goalless at Kaiserslautern last season. The right-back last scored in Bundesliga 1 in May 2024 - for Nuremberg against Elversberg! Jan Gyamerah played 53 second-tier matches for the side he faces today.

Four new signings for Elversberg

Elversberg have a new manager and four new players today: Conté, Condé, Günther and former Nuremberg player Jan Gyamerah have made it into the starting XI.
camera-photo

Nuremberg are here!

One week after the last friendly match (0-2 against Borussia Mönchengladbach), Nuremberg are hoping to make their mark on the 2025/26 season today.
camera-photo

Season opener in Saarland!

After their dramatic promotion/relegation play-off against Heidenheim that saw them narrowly miss out on making the top flight, Elversberg are heading into their third season in the second division.

Vincent Wagner on facing Nuremberg

"Miroslav Klose is now entering his second year in charge. It's quite clear how they want to play, but they are very flexible and variable in their style. We're facing a good football team with many strong players that we need to control."

Miroslav Klose on facing Elversberg

"We need to make it clear to the team that it all starts in Elversberg. That's where the first three points are available. We are all ambitious and we want to stay that way. Last year we lost to them twice. Now we can immediately prove that we can do better. We want to perform accordingly."

Familiar face

New Elversberg signing Jan Gyamerah scored his last Bundesliga 2 goal on 11 May 2024 for Nuremberg against Elversberg (during the 3-0 home victory). Gyamerah played a total of 53 second-tier matches for the Franconians between 2022 and 2024, scoring three goals.

Turning the tables

For Elversberg, those were their first competitive victories against Nuremberg, who had won all three previous encounters without conceding (3-0 and 1-0 in Bundesliga 2 in 2023/24, plus a 3-0 success in the DFB Cup in 2010).

Favourite opposition

Tom Zimmerschied scored in both of those matches, netting half of his four goals in 2024/25 against Nuremberg.

DON'T take the lead...

Nuremberg went ahead in both matches against Elversberg last season, only for Elversberg to win each time (2-1 at home, 3-1 away).
