Full-time: Schalke 0-2 Paderborn
It's an important three points for Paderborn in the promotion race. Although Schalke started decently and fought with commitment, the visitors took the sting out of them in the second half. Based on the number of chances Paderborn created after the break, the victory could have been even more emphatic.

Corner for Schalke
Now it's a set-piece for the hosts. Mohr delivers the ball from the left. After Paderborn fail to clear it properly multiple times, it's Kalas who has a shot from outside the box. However, Riemann manages to secure the ball.

If only the visitors were more clinical...
Paderborn have run at the Schalke defence countless times in the second half. But the counter-attacks aren't being rounded off cleanly at the end. Ansah is also beginning to look knackered now.

Ba with the header
Sylla chases down a switch of play to the right wing. His cross into the middle reaches Ba. However, his header lands wide of the goal. Riemann doesn't even have to get his kit dirty.

Double substitution for the visitors
Kwasniok wants to bring on fresh legs once more. Mehlem rightly gets celebrated by the travelling fans for a strong performance.

Zehnter denied by Heekeren!
There's another counter-attack from the visitors. Bilbija drives forward and waits until his left-back overlaps. The pass comes at the right moment, but the shot is saved by the Schalke keeper. The subsequent corner yields nothing.

Clever from Paderborn
The visitors are not showing any weakness. They launch the occasional counter-attack through, but if they don't find a direct path to goal, they wait until their teammates push up. Most recently, however, Obermair's cross from the right failed to find a recipient.

No red card for Schallenberg
Sigh of relief for Schalke. Schallenberg tackled Michel at the edge of the penalty area. As he was the last man and the referee decided on a sending-off. After review, however, it becomes clear: The Schalke player clearly played the ball, so his red card is rescinded and he remains on the pitch.

Double chance for the visitors
Paderborn have a set-piece about 30 yards from goal. Brackelmann grabs the ball and fires it towards Heekeren's goal. As the ball is deflected by the wall, a corner is awarded. Once again it causes problems, but Donkor just manages to clear a header off the line.

Bulut at the last second
Paderborn look almost immediately to hit the hosts on the counter-attack. However, the 34-year-old Michel is cleanly dispossessed by the Schalke defender, who slides in to prevent a big chance.

Riemann in free flight
This time Seguin makes a more positive impression. His corner from the left flies to the far post. The Paderborn keeper misjudges it slightly and just manages to deflect the ball out for another corner.

Unnecessary Yellow
Frustration is spreading. Mehlem brings down Seguin. It wasn't a particularly heavy challenge, rather a tactical foul in Schalke's half. The Schalke captain then unfairly pushes his opponent over. The Paderborn player certainly makes more of it than it is. It's unnecessary nonetheless.

Schalke pressing forward, Paderborn looking to play
The hosts are not giving up and are trying to win the ball early. But with Riemann, Paderborn have an extra man in the build-up play and are currently managing to beat the press.

Paderborn lead!
Bilbija is denied by Heekeren, who then fluffs his lines trying to clear Zehnter's return pass into the danger zone. The ball lands right at the feet of Obermair, who make no mistake with his first-time finish. It had been coming...

Bilbija dances into the box and lets fly, but Heekeren pulls off a superb save to keep the scoreline goalless.

Double chance!
A long ball finds Bilbija, who cuts into the penalty area and shoots. Heekeren beats it away, with Schallenberg then throwing himself in front of Michel's rebound attempt in front of the goal-line.

Lukas Kwasniok's thoughts on facing Schalke
"A Friday evening match at Schalke - it doesn't get much better than that. We're all really looking forward to it. In the first leg, we couldn't get a grip on the game. Schalke played cat and mouse with us at times."
Kees van Wonderen's thoughts on facing Paderborn+
"We need to bring ambition and energy onto the pitch. We've already shown that, and then we have the quality to beat teams that are competing at the top. That's our mission for Friday."
From Paderborn captain to Schalke defensive leader
Ron Schallenberg is a native of Paderborn, played a total of twelve years for Paderborn and was also captain of the East Westphalians (95 Bundesliga 2 matches for Paderborn, seven goals). On the other side, there are three former Schalke players with Tjark Scheller, Calvin Brackelmann and Mattes Hansen.
Crazy first leg
In the first leg of the current season, Schalke won 4-2 at then-table leaders Paderborn in a deserved victory – the Royal Blues had more shots on goal in that match than in any other game this season (25), while Paderborn had fewer than in any other match this season (five).
Rare joy
The only Paderborn win in nine competitive fixtures was a 3-1 home victory in September 2023.
Strong record
Schalke have won six of the nine competitive matches against Paderborn (five in the Bundesliga 2, four in the Bundesliga) and have never lost at home against Paderborn (two wins, two draws).
