Milestone against former club

Filip Bilbija is making his 50th second-tier appearance for Paderborn today. The 24-year-old has also featured in Bundesliga 2 for HSV (13 times in the 2022/23 season) and FC Ingolstadt (28 times in the 2021/22 season).

One change for Hamburg

HSV coach Merlin Polzin makes only one change to his starting eleven compared to the last match (a 3-0 home victory against Kaiserslautern): Emir Sahiti plays instead of Adedire Mebude.

Paderborn with two changes

Lukas Kwasniok makes two changes to his starting lineup compared to the last match (a 1-1 draw in Hannover): Manuel Riemann - who is eligible to play again after suspension - and Filip Bilbija start in place of Markus Schubert and Santiago Castaneda (both on the bench).

Hamburg starting XI

Heuer Fernandes - Mikelbrencis, Hadžikadunić, Elfadli, Muheim - Karabec, Meffert, Reis - Sahiti, Selke, Dompé

Paderborn starting XI

Riemann - Hoffmeier, Götze, Brackelmann - Obermair, Mehlem, Scheller, Zehnter - Bilbija - Terho, Ansah

Lukas Kwasniok's view on Hamburg

"Everyone hopes to upset the great HSV. That's the dilemma our current opponents have been facing for years. I expect a very good match against a difficult-to-control opponent."

Merlin Polzin's view on Paderborn

"The preparation for Paderborn was very content-focused, as they are characterised by a good problem-solving culture against good opponents. They are very versatile both with and without the ball. We need to be prepared for many situational challenges. That's why it's also important that we have reinforced our own principles during the week."

Familiar faces

Sebastian Schonlau and Daniel Heuer Fernandes have history with Paderborn, having previously played for them. Meanwhile, Calvin Brackelmann and Filip Bilbija used to featue for Hamburg. Bilbija scored twice for Paderborn in the 2-2 draw earlier this season.

Unlikely to be a draw

In Paderborn, the two teams have never shared the points. In nine such matches, there have been six away wins for HSV and three home wins for Paderborn.

Favoured opponent

Paderborn are unbeaten in their last four matches against Hamburg, picking up eight points in the process.
