A game that sparked into life in the final 10 minutes as Weiser poked home to give the hosts the lead. The goal was initially given offside, but after a review, it was given. Immediately after the goal, things went from bad to worse for Bochum as Sissoko picked up his second yellow card for fighting and he was sent for an early bath. Try as they might, Bochum couldn't find a leveller and it is the hosts who come away with all three points. The possibility of European football next season is looking more and more likely with every week.

What a strange goal that was. Bremen come forward down the left and put in a cross. Wittek ends up on the deck whilst defending before Njinmah picks up the loose ball and finds Weiser, who pokes home. Weiser was only onside because Wittek was lying on the ground. Very odd.

"We face a completely different task than in recent weeks. Both in terms of the style of play and the approach of our opponents. Recently, we've all faced teams that pursued a very playful approach and wanted to carry the ball forward with lots of flat passes. Now we're facing a team that will put us under extreme pressure, that will try to play lots of long balls and that wants to provoke a restless game. It will be a lot about second balls and set pieces."

Bochum have recently suffered four Bundesliga defeats in a row, scoring in only one of their last six games (a 3-2 win at Bayern). The Ruhr club are also one of Werder's favourite opponents: only Schalke (46) have been beaten more times by Bremen than Bochum have (45). Werder also have their record best goal difference against the Ruhr club (+76).

Werder are the only team in the division to have celebrated three wins in their last three Bundesliga games. There's every reason to believe it can continue too, as Bremen's next two games are at home against relegation candidates Bochum and St. Pauli.
