The reigning champions survive a scare against their Bavarian rivals. A great first half for Bayern ended in a 2-0 lead, with Serge Gnabry and Luis Díaz finding the back of the net. Michael Olise appeared to have put the game to bed shortly after the interval, but the hosts recovered well and scored through Kristijan Jakić and Mert Kömür. In the end, though, they were unable to find an equaliser in a game that saw Harry Kane register two assists in his 100th Bayern appearance.

Harry Kane won the ARD Sportschau Goal of the Year for 2024, with his goal coming in Bayern's 3-0 win over Augsburg in November 2024. The goal itself was the Englishman's hat-trick goal.

A tough midweek fixture

Although Bayern made light work of RB Leipzig on Matchday 1, the Bundesliga Champions struggled against third-division Wehen Wiesbaden during the week in the German Cup. The Bavarians were strolling at 2-0 just after the hour mark, only to be pegged back to 2-2 in the space of six minutes, before Kane then missed a penalty. Fortunately, for the competition's record champions, the Englishman put his miss behind him to bag the winner in the 94th minute.

It was a perfect start in charge for Sandro Wagner, whose home debut as a Bundesliga coach is now against his former club. The Munich-born ex-striker was previously on the books at Bayern between 1995 and 2008 before returning in 2018 and scoring eight goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances.
