Pellegrino Matarazzo: "I've been with the team for 11 weeks now. We've continuously taken steps forward; the [defeat last week against] Cologne was our first step backward. Now it's a case of taking two steps forward again."

Consistency has been the issue for Leipzig in recent months, claiming wins over Gladbach, Hertha Berlin and Augsburg, plus a DFB Cup victory against Dortmund, but they’ve also lost to BVB in the Bundesliga, as well as Bochum, Mainz and most recently Leverkusen. Marco Rose’s side dropped out of the top four as a result last week, but are only two points off Freiburg, whom they visit twice next week as part of a Bundesliga-DFB Cup semi-final double header.

A run of 14 league games without a win, culminating in a 2-1 loss at Freiburg on Matchday 24, saw Hoffenheim’s fall from European contenders to bottom of the table complete. However, a run of three straight wins and a draw at Bayern then brought TSG back above the line. Defeat at home to Cologne last week means they aren’t yet out of danger yet, though. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side are only four points above the bottom three.

No team has won more penalties this campaign than Hoffenheim’s seven, while Leipzig have given away eight spot-kicks so far – only Bochum have been penalised more often.

Going the other way at the start of the season, Angelino is on loan at Hoffenheim from Leipzig. He’s his side’s top provider by some distance with seven assists this campaign.

David Raum’s eight crosses leading to goals last season for Hoffenheim was a league best alongside Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic. But since his summer move to the Red Bull Arena, he’s yet to deliver a single cross for a goal from open play.

Leipzig have lost just one of their last 11 competitive fixtures against TSG, winning eight and drawing two. The sole defeat was 2-0 in Sinsheim last season.

Hoffenheim take on Leipzig for the third time this season, having also met here in the DFB Cup round of 16 in February. They lost both encounters 3-1.

Leipzig have lost four of their last seven Bundesliga games and now find themselves fifth with five games remaining. However, three of those are at home, where they have won 10 times this season – only Borussia Dortmund have more victories on their own patch (12).
