Full-time: Hertha Berlin 1-1 Darmstadt

Hertha and Darmstadt share the points after an intense match. Following a goalless first half, the game became significantly more attractive in the second period. First, the Lilies took the lead, shortly after which Hertha equalised through an own goal. In the end, the hosts came closer to victory, but the post prevented them from picking up all three points.

Post!

Leistner plucks the ball down in the penalty area after a corner, sets it up with a great move and then shoots against the post! That was close!

Almost another own goal!

Reese crosses the ball with the outside of his boot into the penalty area, where Winkler heads it against Darmstadt's Riedel, who nearly deflects the ball into his own net.

Niederlechner!

The substitute receives a pass from Reese at the near post, but he can't direct the ball on target. The ball goes narrowly wide of the left post.

The final few minutes are underway

Both managers have made substitutions and brought fresh legs onto the pitch. Can either team score the decisive goal?

Reese puts it over

The forward naturally takes the subsequent free-kick. However, his shot goes well over the bar.

So close

The foul on Scherhant is just centimetres outside the penalty area. Riedel receives a yellow card for it!
76'

Almost a lead for the Lilies!

Bueno drives down the left flank into the penalty area and gets a shot away from a tight angle, but Ernst makes the save!
75'

Over!

Maza has plenty of space about 25 yards from the goal and goes for a long-range shot. His attempt whistles over the crossbar.
72'

Yellow

Demme catches Förster about 30 yards from goal.
71'

Ball moving well

Maza wins the ball on the halfway line and moves forward quickly. He plays it through to Reese, who in turn tries to send Scherhant into the penalty area. He's held back by his shirt and therefore can't reach the pass.
68'

Game now more attractive

After goals on both sides, it's now a more appealing match, with the sides taking more risks.
65'

Hertha benefit

Like only Düsseldorf before them, the Berliners have now been rewarded three times by own goals (previously from Braunschweig's Nikolaou and Regensburg's Gebhardt).
62'

Into his own net!

Winkler plays the ball sharply across the goal, and Vukotić feels Reese behind him and tries to block the ball. Unfortunately for him, he directs it into his own net in the attempt. All square!

Leitl reacts

The first substitution is a defensive one. Karbownik comes on for Sessa.
57'

Becoming more proactive

The Berliners are now at least managing to shift the play into the Darmstadt half. However, a clear goal-scoring opportunity has not yet materialised.
53'

How will Hertha react?

The home side should really become more active now, but so far there are no signs of increased offensive efforts. Gechter wants to cross into the penalty area, but instead kicks the ball almost into the stands.

The goalscorer delivers

That is the 14th goal of the season for Lidberg - only three players have scored more in Bundesliga 2! The Swede has managed five goals in the last seven matches alone.
48'

Lidberg with the opener!

It's a tap-in! After a long-range shot from Nürnberger, the striker is where a striker should be and pushes the ball over the line. The Lilies are in the lead!

We're back underway

Half-time: Hertha Berlin 0-0 Darmstadt

It's goalless as they head in for the half-time break. Darmstadt have had slightly more possession, but look devoid of ideas in the final third. Hertha are waiting for counter-attacks, but haven't really threatened in front of the opposition goal either. As the cliché goes, this match could do with a goal.

That was close!

This time, Vukotić gets the better of Leistner and manages to head the corner kick from the right side towards goal. However, he narrowly misses the target to the left.
40'

Still a lot of possession

The Lilies are have been playing it around the back for a few minutes. The Berliners are not pressing them there. Going forward, the visitors lack ideas, though, so they usually end up getting the ball again in their own third.

Lilies with more possession

With almost 60 percent of the ball, the visitors are dictating the pace of the game. It seems as though Hertha are deliberately allowing them to do so, though, in order to become dangerous on the counter.

The first yellow card

Corredor catches Zeefuik with an elbow to the face - yellow card!
23'

That's dangerous!

Reese slices a cross attempt from the right flank slightly off his boot. This gives the ball an awkward flight path and it nearly finds the net, but Schuhen manages to tip it over the crossbar. Perhaps it was intentional? You wouldn't put it past Reese.
20'

The first big chance!

After a corner, the ball falls to Lidberg's feet in the six-yard box. Ernst, though, saves the shot on the turn with a strong reflex!
18'

Reese blocked

Zeefuik lays the ball off with his heel and Hertha's star man has a chance to shoot. It's almost the same position from which he was able to score last week in Cologne, but this time the shot is blocked.
15'

Offensive foul

Leistner is the target of a Darmstadt free-kick, but he goes in too aggressively for the aerial duel and concedes a foul against him.
12'

Lidberg sought

Vukotić plays a high ball forward and tries to send his striker into a foot race with Leistner, but the ball is too steep and is collected by Ernst.
9'

Now Darmstadt push forward

The Lilies establish themselves in the Berlin half for the first time in the match. They earn a corner, but it is easily cleared.
6'

First attack

Demme crosses from the right side, but doesn't find a teammate in the middle. Winkler chases the ball down, but his attempted cross is blocked. Maza's shot from outside the box seconds later doesn't pose much of a threat either.
3'

Hectic start

The ball has been in the air often so far, with play is going back and forth. Neither team have been able to take control of the match yet.

Kick-off!

The ball is rolling at the Olympiastadion. Hertha are playing in their blue and white home kit, while the visitors from Darmstadt are in orange.

More from the Darmstadt camp

There's a second change for Darmstadt: Merveille Papela takes his place on the bench for the first time since January, with Guille Bueno starting in his place, likely forming the Spanish full-back pairing with Sergio López.

Darmstadt team news

The visitors must do without the injured Fraser Hornby (ankle haematoma) and so Jean-Paul Boëtius takes his place in the starting line-up. Boëtius recently came off the bench to assist the winning goal against Fürth with a killer pass.

More on that Hertha side

Stefan Leitl has to make changes following the outstanding performance in Cologne, as two key players, Michael Cuisance and Jonjoe Kenny, are both suspended due to yellow card accumulation. Kevin Sessa makes his first start since February and Marton Dárdai also joins him in the starting line-up. Dárdai was suspended last week due to his tenth yellow card but returns this afternoon.

Darmstadt starting XI

Schuhen - López, Riedel, Vukotić, Bueno - Förster, Boëtius, Müller, Nürnberger - Lidberg, Corredor

Hertha starting XI

Ernst - Gechter, Leistner, Dárdai - Winkler, Sessa, Demme, Maza, Zeefuik - Reese, Scherhant

Kohfeldt on facing Hertha

"We want to travel to Berlin to win there. Hertha also want to extend their very good run of three consecutive victories against us. I expect an exciting football match. Both teams are strong in positional play and want to defend on the front foot. It will be an interesting tactical battle. But I also expect a god match for the spectators with many goal-scoring opportunities on both sides."

The refereeing team:

Referee: Timo Gansloweit, Assistant Referee 1: Felix Weller, Assistant Referee 2: Marcel Pelgrim, Fourth Official: Timon Schulz, VAR: Katrin Rafalski, VAR Assistant: Dr. Justus Zorn

Ancient history

Both clubs are playing together in the Bundesliga 2 for the first time since the 1992/93 season. Back then, Hertha won their home match 1-0 despite being a man down following red card for Andreas Zimmermann. Günter Sebert was coach, Miroslav Tanjga scored the winning goal and the Old Lady's squad included Mario Basler, Niko Kovac and Sven Demandt.

Bragging rights

Darmstadt won the first clash between these sides this season 3-1 after being 1-0 down – Andreas Müller scoring the final goal, his only one of the season.
