Full-time: Augsburg 0-0 Werder Bremen

The final game of 2025 for both sides ends scoreless as both sides will rue missed opportunities in the second half, though Augsburg will definitely feel the unluckier of the two. They hit the post twice, first through Rexhbecaj and then through Tietz. Steffen's side could have capitalised at the end from Schmid, but it just wasn't mean to be. It's a point-a-piece for both teams as they pause for the winter break.

Schmid puts it wide!

That could have been it for Werder and and it's an incredible finish to the game as Schmid wriggles his way into the Augsburg box after a Bremen counter, but he just couldn't get it out of his feet quickly enough and the shot whistles inches wide.

Tietz hits the bar!

That's the second time the home side have hit the bar and this time it's substitute forward Tietz who rises highest to meet a cross from Rexhbecaj, but the header can only find the top of Backhaus' goal. This is just not Augsburg's day.

More yellow cards

A yellow each for both camps in back-to-back minutes as defenders Zesiger and Lynen both go into the book for rash challenges.

Sharp Dahmen!

It was almost a moment to panic for the Augsburg number one who reacted quickly to a through ball from Schmid to Čović as the youngster clatters into the keeper, though it is a completely fair save to make.

Not game over just yet

We have a grand total of seven minutes still to play here, anything is possible...

Topp can't make contact!

The game has now come into life in the dying moments. Substitute Topp is nearly found by a well-timed cutback if not for an alert Dahmen, who rushes to gather.
88'

Wasted opportunity for Augsburg

A fast break for Augsburg who had numbers in attack following another Bremen corner. Baum's men sped away on the break and could not be stopped. Ultimately, Dardari's attempt could only find a Bremen defender inside the area and left another chance wasted for the home side.
86'

Block from Grüll!

It's a fierce stop from the substitute who denies Fellhauer inside the Bremen box. Steffen's side had to dig deep for a moment there but have endured Augsburg's press well enough.
84'

Changes at the back and attack

Steffen brings on fresh legs at both ends but will it be enough to make a difference? Five minutes to go in normal time...
81'

No goal decided

The final call is no goal and a drop ball sees the game resume.
80'

Claude-Maurice smashes it!

Celebrations cut short at the WWK Arena as Claude-Maurice smashes the ball into Backhaus' net, but before the ball goes in, a heavy challenge from Massengo on Stage forces the referee into a discussion with his VAR team...

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
We are in the final phase of the game and both sides have turned up in the second period. Augsburg have enjoyed the greater share of chances in the last 10-15 minutes. Which side will crack first? We don't have long to find out...

Elvis hits the post!

That was superbly struck by the Kosovo international and the post's clatter is loud. It's a driven effort from range which curled onto the outside of the past, a slight deflection from Bremen captain Friedl guides the ball in its journey.
75'

Teen change for Bremen

18-year-old Čović is brought on by Steffen to replace Puertas who has been a busy body today.
74'

Pieper sees yellow

The Bremen number five is the next to go into the book for pulling back Rieder to prevent an Augsburg attack. No complaints from the former Bielefeld man.
73'

Pedersen almost!

Backhaus was fixed to his spot there. The threat coems from Fellhauer's cross again for Augsburg, the onrushing Pedersen manages to get some contact on the ball but is impeded by Stark in the Bremen box.
67'

Lynen just wide!

It's gone just wide and it's the best corner Bremen have managed. Schmid's inswinger finds the head of Lynen, whose header deceives the visiting faithful.
66'

Banks into the book

The onrushing Augsburg number 40 nudges the back of Lynen. The referee has seen enough and he goes into the book.
camera-photo

Big chance for Massengo!

That was Augsburg's best chance of the game - it all comes from the persistence from the flank as Fellhauer battles past Friedl to whip in a great ball into the Werder box. The Augsburg midfielder ghosts in for the header but it flies just past the post.
57'

Landmark for Elvis

It's a milestone appearance for the Kosovo international as he comes on to make his 200th appearance in the Bundesliga.
56'

Changes forced for the home side

An unfortunate ending to his day at the office, Baum has elected to bring on Pedersen to replace Giannoulis and Rexhbecaj to replace the injured Jakić.
53'

Jakić down

It doesn't look good for the Augsburg midfielder, as the referee calls for the medical staff to assess his situation. An unfortunate collision for the Croat with a Werder man has left him wincing in pain.
52'

Claude-Maurice whips it!

That's better from the Frenchman compared to his first-half effort. This one was fierce and nearly spilled into a dangerous area by Backhaus but the Bremen defence is able to sweep the ball away.
51'

Schmid is blocked

The Austrian finds himself with space cutting inside off the left and had his eyes on goal, but the shot is blocked by an Augsburg man, another moment of frustration for the playmaker today.
48'

Njinmah's afterburners

The German has come out with blazing pace in these opening couple of minutes, a second cutback opportunity in as many minutes leads to a chance for Puertas, whose shot goes high and wide of Dahmen's goal.
46'

Off we go

The home side get us underway for the second period, the young Kömür replaces Wolf at the break.
後半開始
camera-photo

Half-time: Augsburg 0-0 Bremen

It's level at the break and it's been a cagey affair to say the least. No clear cut chances to note as of yet but Steffen's side will be disappointed with their end-product and even more with all the corners they wasted in the first half. Both coaches will ask for improvements in the second 45.

Heated end to the half

The referee has to get involved and separate the two as Giannoulis reacts to another exchange with Sugawara. Schmid didn't look happy with that and the referee wasn't happy with anybody. Yellow cards shown to both.
45'

Not long to go...

Three minutes of added time has been shown by the fourth official...can Augsburg give the home fans something to cheer about before the break?
42'

Stark difference

Steffen's side have been a bit too wasteful from all the corner opportunities they've had. The delivery has been poor in this first half, as we near the break.

Rash from Banks

The American goes charging into Lynen just outside the Augsburg box and takes a risk with the challenge, presenting Schmid a chance from a direct-freekick. But the wall does its job and the ball sails out for one more Bremen corner.
39'

Back-to-back corners

Steffen's side are turning up the pressure now on the home side. The first corner is put into a dangerous area but is well defended. A clever touch from Lynen prevents a dangerous counter for Augsburg. The ball is moved nicely into a dangerous area and results in another corner for the visitors.
34'

Good to go again

Words exchanged between the referee and the Augsburg fullback before he's allowed to come back with the home side momentarily down to 10.
32'

Aggressive from Sugawara

Another late tackle from the Japanese international, this time on Giannoulis, who is down in pain momentarily as the game is paused by the referee while the Augsburg medics take a look.

28'

Perfection from Friedl

The Bremen captain is alert to the danger of a speedy run from the dangerous Claude-Maurice. His sliding tackle is perfectly timed and Bremen have the ball back. Slight discomfort on that shoulder for the Austrian as a result, but thumbs up and he's okay to go again.
25'

Good work from Claude-Maurice

Excellent hold-up play from the Frenchman to bring Giannoulis into space on the left. The Greece international's cross finds a Werder header, but persistence from Banks leads to another corner for the home side.
23'

Stop-start

Fouls, clearances and hand-balls, the game has become rather stop-start in nature in the last five minutes. One of these teams needs to take the game by the scruff of it's neck.
camera-photo

Wolf prowling about

The Augsburg number 27 is proving a handful with his off-ball movement, the latest forcing a block from Stark and another corner for the Bavarians.
17'

Smooth from Bremen

They're lacking end-product but it's yet another excellent counter from Werder, with Stage charging down the right, attempting to cross back into the box to find Njinmah but fails to do so.
camera-photo

Pinball for Bremen

Another corner shortly after triggers a pin-ball sequence starting with a Friedl header, followed by a dangerous cutback into the box but the killer shot did not come and Augsburg have the ball once again.
12'

Swerving and bending from Puertas

From about 30 yards or so, the Spaniard has a free-kick aimed directly to test Dahmen, but it flies just wide for a corner from which Werder have retained the ball.
10'

Wolf nearly

Backhaus comes out aggressively to deny the wingback's sweeping chipped effort but Augsburg are looking more and more confident at the minute, and certainly looking the better side going forward.
camera-photo

Claude-Maurice on Backhaus

And just as we've said that, Claude-Maurice tests Backhaus from range to account for the game's first shot on target.
7'

Opening exchanges

No shots or chances created by either side just yet. With the ball moving from one box to the other, but both defences standing firm.

Trio of changes for Steffen and co.

Steffen has gone with Schmidt on the flanks, the Swiss full-back making his first start of the season. On the other side, Puertas comes in, with Stark lining up alongside Pieper at the heart of defence. Club captain Friedl has recovered in time from a shoulder problem, Samuel Mbangula is unavailable due to a twisted ankle in training.

More on Augsburg's changes

Two changes for Baum's side today. Zesiger replaces the suspended Chrislain Matsima. Meanwhile the seasoned Wolf comes in for Anton Kade, who is unavailable due to an ankle injury.

Manuel Baum on facing Bremen

"It's going to be a completely different game. Leverkusen and Frankfurt demanded a lot from us defensively. Now we want to show a different side to ourselves, to get at the Bremen defence, score more goals than them and get the three points in front of our own fans."
camera-photo

Horst Steffen on facing Augsburg

"Augsburg played well in their last two games - they beat Leverkusen and narrowly lost to Frankfurt. They don't allow teams much space, are very compact and strong in transition. We need to be patient and be solid at the back. It's by no stretch an easy fixture - it'll be a real challenge."
camera-photo

Augsburg missing trio

Augsburg have been one of the hardest-hit Bundesliga teams by Africa Cup of Nations call-ups, losing Samuel Essende (DR Congo), Elias Saad (pictured) and Ismaël Gharbi (both Tunisia) for at least this game. By contrast, Bremen have retained the services of Victor Boniface and Felix Agu after they were cut from Nigeria's preliminary squad.
camera-photo

Augsburg omen?

Augsburg have more victories against Werder Bremen (13) than against any other club in the Bundesliga. Saturday's hosts have also scored more Bundesliga goals against Bremen (42) than against any other team.
camera-photo

Improvement needed

Form wise, Werder are on the poorest run in the division when taking the last four matchdays into account. Saturday's visitors to the WWK Arena have only picked up one point from a possible 12 in those games.
camera-photo

Cause for optimism

Augsburg recently got their first two consecutive home wins this calendar year, keeping clean sheets in both matches - 1-0 against Hamburg and 2-0 against Bayer Leverkusen.

Watch: Bremen 0-2 Augsburg - previous meeting

Augsburg took four points off Bremen last season, winning 2-0 on the road and drawing 2-2 at home. They have a slight advantage in the head-to-head stakes at Bundesliga level, winning 13 to Werder's 10 (three draws), but have lost three and drawn one of four DFB Cup ties between the pair.
