Afolayan flyin'
That's Dapo Afolayan's first first goal since early November (against Hoffenheim) and his third Bundesliga goal of the campaign.
85'
Pauli, finally!
The hosts have done it. It's been a long time coming, this, but nobody will say it wasn't deserved. Dapo Afolayan picks up possession, gets to the D and smashes a long-range special past Cardoso. The stadium erupts!

Metcalfe over
Oh this is a chance. An excellent first touch from Metcalfe and suddenly he has the target in front of him with the crowd inhaling deeply. The Pauli sub rockets the ball over the crossbar.
79'
Set-piece spurned
Pauli take a long time over a free kick. Sinani eventually hits it, and his effort is deflected wide. It's hard to see the hosts scoring here as we enter the closing stages.

Netz goes in hard on Saliakas and that's a yellow card all day.

Metcalfe in the mix
Australia international Connor Metcalfe continues his recovery from injury as he comes on to replace Elias Saad.

Easy for Vasilj
Kleindienst sends a tame header straight into the arms of Vasilj in a rare Gladbach chance.
67'
No way through
Guilavogui looks to feed Irvine, who loses that race to Cardoso in the Gladbach goal. Pauli need something more imaginative here.

Wasteful Saad
Saliakas's cross from the right looks perfect for Saad, who heads into the ground while under no pressure. That ball loops harmlessly over.
56'
Cardoso busy
Sinani spanks a corner high into the middle, Tiago Pereira Cardoso fists clear (see earlier post). Gladbach's goalkeeper doesn't turn 19 until tomorrow. He's having one more stellar game here.

Punching keeper
The sun is shining right into Cardodo's eyes here, meaning the young custodian has reverted to punching a lot.
51'
Pléa miss
Suddenly Pléa is free in front of the target and awaits a looping pass, which lands right on his bonce. The France forward heads straight at the goalkeeper. That was a big chance for 2-0.

St. Pauli on the attack
The hosts are starting the second half much as they did the first, on the front foot. Sinani is in at the near post and shoots for goal. His effort is deflected wide by Weigl.
48'
Ullrich booked
Ullrich trips Weißhaupt right outside the Gladbach box. The subsequent free kick comes to nothing.
47'
Saliakas strikes
Manolis Saliakas lets fly from the edge of the area and Cardoso is there once again to stop and collect at the second attempt.

Half-time: St. Pauli 0-1 Gladbach
The Boys in Brown will not be happy bunnies in that dressing-room at half-time. They took the game to the visitors almost throughout but another profligate display in front of their home fans has been punished with Ko Itakura's well-guided header the difference at the break.

Gladbach lead!
Pauli are punished for their earlier profligacy and Gladbach pounce. The corner drifts all the way across to Itakura, who has an age to nod the ball across goal and into the top corner. The away end erupts.

Referee review
It initially appears as though Elvedi nicks Weißhaupt on the edge of the area. We'll have a review. The referee goes to his screen and subsequently makes an announcement. No foul.

Saad delays
The ball is worked to Elias Saad just outside the area. He takes too long to make his mind up and Gladbach nip in to clear.

Huge chance
Pinball inside the Gladbach area. Suddenly the ball breaks for Saad who has the goal at his mercy! A weak effort from the forward is blocked out by Cardoso. Saad has to score there.
29'
Cheeky Hack
The Gladback man spots Nikola Vasilj off his line and launches one towards the target. The Pauli shot stopper gets back to deal comfortably with that. Nice try, though.

Kleindienst chance
Honorat bends a terrific pass into the box, one that is made for Tim Kleindienst. The Germany international rises and angles a header wide of the target. The Gladbach striker didn't get that quite right in terms of execution and he's visibly disappointed with himself.
21'
Fan power
Despite the lack of goals, the home fans are doing their best to keep the home side going. Super atmosphere inside the Millerntor on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Hamburg.
18'
Same old problem
For all of their possession and attacking threat, the hosts are plagued by that same old problem they've been dealing with this term: a lack of fire power. Pauli have only scored eight goals at home all season.

Hack's away
Gladbach break through Robin Hack, who has Kleindienst in support. The attacker goes himself, racing all the way into the box before flinging himself to the floor with Nemeth in close proximity. The ref waves plays on.

Borussia's moment
A rare sigh of relief for the Foals, who start pinging the ball around in the final third. Such has been the pressure Pauli have been applying to their opponents, Gladbach are looking more than a little nervous.

Pauli's favourite Bundesliga opponents
While Gladbach are in contention for a UEFA Champions League qualification spot, Pauli will be confident of getting a win. Against no other side have they managed as many goals in the Bundesliga (22), while they have picked up points in more matches (11) against them amongst the elite, more than versus anyone else.
