Watch: Kevin Trapp: "We let it slip"

The Eintracht Frankurt captain rued his side's performance in their defeat despite leading.
camera-photo

Full-time: Frankfurt 1-2 Union

What a second half here at the Deutsche Bank Park! Querfeld's header began Union's comeback after just over an hour, throwing Frankfurt's first half dominance into question. Baumgart's substitutions worked wonders as Jeong gave his side the lead around 15 minutes later with a fantastically composed finish. Hollerbach thought he'd won it, but VAR ruled the goal out for handball, before VAR went on to award a penalty for the hosts late on. But goalkeeper Rønnow is the hero late on for Union, getting down to deny Ekitiké from the spot.

The Frenchman steps up to take it. He aims for the bottom left, but Rønnow gets down very well to make a great save to preserve his side's lead late on! What drama here late on.

Hollerbach surely seals it!

How clinical have Union been today?! The visitors win the ball in their own half and instantly look to counter. Hollerbach drives from inside his own half. He plays it wide to Jeong and continues his run. The Korean whips a great ball in from the right, and Hollerbach manages to latch onto the end of it inside the six yard box to poke it home for 3-1.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The xG values suggest that Union are good value for their lead here. When they've had chances, Union have been clinical.

Jeong gives his side the lead!

A long ball for Union isn't headed clear by Tuta for Frankfurt. It comes off his back and falls to the feet of Jeong. He drives up the pitch, slowing at the edge of the box. The Frankfurt defence backs off, marking Jeong's options either side. The Korean accepts the invitation to shoot, curling a precise effort into the bottom left corner. What a turnaround for the Irons!

Querfeld celebrates

Union's goalscorer (r.) thanks Trimmel (l.), who provided the assist for the centre-back's headed goal just after the hour-mark.
71'

Changes

Both managers make attacking-minded substitutions. Baumgart makes a double change, bringing Jeong and Rothe on for Trimmel and Haberer. It's just the one for Toppmöller, who brings in Wahi for Chaïbi. We should be in for a thrilling end to this match...
71'

Fraction over

This game is really end-to-end now. Hollerbach beats Collins down the left before laying it off to Juranović, who smashes an effort from the edge of the box, but it's just over the bar.
67'

A flurry of chances!

Götze plays a high ball over the top for Ekitiké. The Frenchman bears down on goal, and would have a one-on-one situation, if not for Trimmel who comes all the way across from the full-back position to make a great block. Frankfurt reclaim the ball, though, working it to Kristensen, who lets fly from just inside the box. His powerful curled effort strikes the outside of the left post and goes behind.
66'

Another corner

Union are putting the hosts under pressure here. Trimmel takes it and it's met by Querfeld again, but it's well over this time.
64'

Larsson nearly retakes the lead

The young Swede is sent through into the Union box down the right. Under no challenge he opts to shoot on the half-volley from a tight angle. It's well struck, but it loops just over the top left corner.
63'

Querfeld levels it!

Ilić's shot from inside the Eintracht box is deflected behind for a corner. Trimmel takes an out-swinger from the right. Querfeld rises powerfully at the penalty spot, finishing with a bullet header past Trapp to draw his side level with his first ever Bundesliga goal.

Frankfurt go to the bench

Toppmöller makes a double change now. Götze and Ekitiké replace Bahoya and Batshuayi.

So nearly

Tremmel plays the subsequent free-kick in from the left. Union win the first ball, heading it down for Khedira, who pounces on the loose ball right in front of the Frankfurt goal. He stikes his volley into the ground first, with the ball bouncing over the net. That was a real chance for the captain...

More shots needed

If Union are to find a way back into this one, they'll need to get more shots off and test Trapp in the Frankfurt goal. Perhaps substitutes Schäfer and Hollerbach can provide a much needed boost going forward.

Half-time: Frankfurt 1-0 Union

Frankfurt go into the break as deserved leaders, having cruised to a comfortable 1-0 lead. Their much changed and young side has delivered a very mature performance, though it was veteran striker Batshuayi who opened the scoring early on. Union looked more lively after conceding, but are yet to fashion any gilt-edged chances for themselves.

Sliced

First chance, first goal!

Frankfurt find a reward for a well-worked team goal. Brown plays Chaïbi into the box down the left side, who passes it onto Højlund. The midfielder spins, before laying it off to Kristensen. It takes a deflection, falling at the feet of Batshuayi, who dispatches the chance from close range for his first goal in an Eintracht jersey!

Frankfurt team news

A much-changed Frankfurt side from Matchday 24's 4-1 defeat against Leverkusen sees Toppmöller make six alterations. Koch misses out through illness, whilst Skhiri is suspended. Götze, Ekitiké, Wahi and Knauff all start on the bench. In their places come Tuta, Collins, Højlund, Bahoya, Uzun and Batshuayi, who makes only his second start up top for the Eagles.

Union team news

For Steffen Baumgart, there are four changes to his side that lost 1-0 to Kiel on Matchday 24. Trimmel, Skarke, Haberer, and Ilić all start in favour of Rothe, Hollerbach, Jeong, and Ljubicic, who all drop to the bench. Union seem to be lining up in a 3-5-2 formation, as opposed to last week's 3-4-3.

Baumgart to put up a fight

Union head coach Steffen Baumgart has faced Eintracht Frankfurt seven times before as a manager, losing only once, with his three wins and three draws highlighting an impressive record against the Eagles.
camera-photo

Eagles' recent form

It's been a tough couple of weeks in terms of Frankfurt's fixtures. The Eagles come into this one having suffered back-to-back defeats in the league against league-leaders Bayern and Leverkusen, conceding 8 goals in the process. However, a hard-fought 2-1 win midweek away at Dutch giants Ajax should provide hope for those on the Main this afternoon.
camera-photo

First game of the day

We've got two games in store for Sunday, starting with this one at the Deutsche Bank Park where hosts Frankfurt can move third with a win. Union, meanwhile, start the day three points clear of the bottom-three and will be looking to add more daylight between them and the teams below.
camera-photo

Steffen Baumgart on facing Frankfurt

"Our goal is to approach the match against one of the best teams in the Bundesliga with full concentration. Yesterday’s match (against Ajax in the Europa League) showed how strong Frankfurt are, so it will be a tough challenge, and we must fully focus on our strengths, even if we haven’t been turning them into points recently. But the goal remains to go to Frankfurt and bring something back."
camera-photo

Dino Toppmöller on facing Union

"Union are a team that play very intensive football, who have a lot of quality and who are very strong on second balls and dangerous from set-pieces. They also always have excellent movement in behind. So it won't be a walk in the park, but we are well prepared and feel really good physically. I think you saw that yesterday [against Ajax in the Europa League] too. That's what it will come down to again, bringing that intensity onto the pitch."
