Full-time: Stuttgart 1-3 Bayern

Bayern come from behind for a win that takes them 11 points clear of defending champions Leverkusen, who go to Frankfurt on Saturday. They fell behind and rode their luck for long periods in the first half, but showed title-winning mentality after the break to deservedly take the spoils.

That's it!

Another defensive mistake hands the points to Bayern. Coman forces the error from Vagnoman inside the centre circle. He then races onto a tame attempt at a back-pass before rounding the advancing Nübel and swiping into the unguarded net from distance.

Stuttgart go straight up the other end with Woltemade, who dances through the Bayern defence, lays the ball off and then wins a corner in his attempt to put the return pass back into the middle. Stuttgart go route one with a long ball out from the back. Davies misses his attempted headed clearance, taking the unmarked Vagnoman by surprise. He only has Neuer to beat, but chips tamely into the arms of Neuer.

Watch: The best goals in Bayern's 125-year history

With Bayern celebrating the 125th anniversary of the club's founding earlier this week, we shine a light on some of their best goals throughout the years.

Stuttgart team news

Sebastian Hoeneß made one enforced change to his side in the wake of last week's 1-1 draw with Hoffenheim. Right-back Stergiou is out with a heel complaint, so Vagnoman comes into what is otherwise an unchanged line-up.

More on that Bayern team

Vincent Kompany has made four changes to the side that started last week's 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Central midfield pairing Kimmich and Pavlović are absent through injury and illness respectively, so they're replaced by Goretzka and Palhinha. Elsewhere, Davies starts at left-back in place of Ito, while Kane returns up top, with Müller dropping to the bench.

Stuttgart starting XI

Nübel - Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstädt - Leweling, Karazor (c), Stiller, Führich - Undav, Woltemade

Stuttgart subs

Bredlow, Hendriks, Keitel, Millot, Demirović, Jaquez, Stenzel, Bruun Larsen, Rieder

Bayern starting XI

Neuer (c) - Laimer, Dier, Kim, Davies - Goretzka, Palhinha - Olise, Musiala, Sané - Kane

Sebastian Hoeneß's view on Bayern

"We need to perform at the highest level and with great focus for 90 minutes. We want to face Bayern with a passionate, courageous display and a really good performance. We know their strengths."
camera-photo

Vincent Kompany's view on Stuttgart

"Going away to face the team who finished second last season is never easy. We have only been focusing on the match and have prepared in exactly the same way for it as usual, as it is a very important match for us."

Kimmich expected to miss tie

Vincent Kompany confirmed on Thursday that Joshua Kimmich is unlikely to travel to Stuttgart for the encounter on Friday evening having sustained a thigh injury in last Sunday's 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Leon Goretzka and Aleksander Pavlović are expected to form the deep bank of two in midfield in his absence.

Improvement sought

Friday night's hosts have taken just four points from their last five Bundesliga games and have dropped to seventh place in the standings as a result. VfB's designs on a top-four finish could do with a lift this weekend, yet all concerned know how difficult it will be to achieve one, with Bayern arriving on a run of eight wins in their last nine unbeaten Bundesliga games.

Goal-king Kompany

Bayern's boss has now overseen 100 goals in his 36 games in all competitions at the helm of the Bavarian giants. In the Bundesliga this term, the record champions have scored an average of exactly three goals per game (69 in 23 games), which is the second best in German top-flight history at this stage of a campaign.
camera-photo

Kimmich a doubt

You can catch up on the latest ins and outs on the line-ups front in our post below, but one player who is a big doubt for this game is Bayern and Germany mainstay Joshua Kimmich, who suffered hamstring soreness in his team's win against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend. The Bavarian giants say the 30-year-old is being treated for tendonitis.
camera-photo

Jeltsch at the ready

It's been an incredible few weeks for new VfB defender Finn Jeltsch, the defender who recently signed for the Swabians from Nuremberg and now looks set for only a second start in Sebastian Hoeneß's side. The 18-year-old has had to adapt quickly to life in the Bundesliga and is now ready for the greatest of tests with Bayern in town. "The second division is at a really good level, but the Bundesliga is a different story," Jeltsch told Stuttgart's official website. "The biggest differences are the pace of the game and the quality of both the opposing teams and the individual players," he added.
