Full-time: Darmstadt 1-3 Leipzig

Darmstadt were the form team coming into this on the back of two straight victories, with Leipzig winless in two, but the visitors hit the ground running, with Loïs Openda netting the earliest goal of this season inside a minute. Emil Forsberg then doubled the advantage with a free-kick before Tobias Kempe brought the Lilies back into it with a penalty. Having had one ruled out for offside, Openda then got his second and Leipzig’s third later in the second half to put any potential Darmstadt comeback to bed after a spirited performance by the hosts.

Werner must score!

Huge chance to Timo Werner one-on-one against Schuhen, who appears to be sold and diving one way, but Werner delays and allows the Darmstadt keeper to recover and get a foot to the shot.

It's given!

Third time today Openda has had the ball in the back of the net. This time it does count. Originally ruled out for offside and with a potential hand, but it's finally given on review - and Leipzig have breathing space again.

Offside

What a goal this would've been. Clipped ball over the Darmstadt defence to Forsberg, who nods it down for Openda. He takes a touch to sell Schuhen a dummy but is then flagged offside.

Now Mehlem!

The Lilies have come out with confidence and work their way from one end to the other in a matter of seconds. A defence-splitting pass finds the run of Mehlem, who's only denied by an excellent sliding block by Simakan.

So close to an equaliser!

Leipzig fail to clear their lines and the ball comes back over their defence. Pfeiffer has an air-kick with his first attempt but has another go, gets it past Blaswich on the angle, but the ball rolls across the face of goal and wide.

Half-time: Darmstadt 1-2 Leipzig

Leipzig got off to a flier but haven't had it all their own way at all, with Darmstadt's goal from a Kempe penalty more than deserved as the promoted side keep themselves in this game.

Lieberknecht's view on Leipzig

"Leipzig are a big team. They're in the Champions League and doing well there, just like they are in the Bundesliga, where they're among the title contenders. We have to be proactive, but there'll also be times where we have to defend deep because of Leipzig's quality. It's about intensity, winning the challenges and, above all, mentality."
camera-photo

Rose's view on Darmstadt

"It'll be a tough test for us. Darmstadt have managed to find their feet in the Bundesliga. They looked a bit nervy at the start of the season and relied on long balls, but now they're playing without fear. They've got a good midfield and play with a lot of pace and physicality, which is what you want to do as a newly promoted side. They've won their last two games and will be going into the game on Saturday with a lot of belief as a result."

Joint message for peace

The DFL has recommended a minute's silence in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 to remember all innocent victims and their relatives after the devastating events in the Middle East. With this joint effort, the DFL and DFB would like to send a common message from German football for peace. Football is a sport that brings people together, which is why we all stand up for peaceful coexistence, respect and tolerance. A fortnight ago, the terrorist attack by Hamas on the people of Israel and the State of Israel began. The DFL is shocked by this terrible attack and the events in the region.
