Full-time: Wolfsburg 1-0 Bochum

Wolfsburg eased their own relegation fears by deepening those of Bochum with a 1-0 victory at the Volkswagen Arena. Fresh from his Bundesliga Team of the Season nomination, Jonas Wind’s first top-flight goal since November proved to be the winner, opening up a four-point gap to the bottom-three. Bochum, meanwhile, could drop into third-bottom if Mainz avoid defeat tomorrow.

Cheeky Paredes

Paredes has the ball in the back of the net but it won't count and he receives a booking for jumping in front of Riemann's clearance, which hits the American in the backside and rebounds into an empty net. Couple of changes for Bochum, too, as Wittek and Daschner enter the fray.

Triple change Wolfsburg

Hassenhüttl changes things around in attack, with Behrens, Paredes and Sarr replacing the front-three of Wind, Tomás and Baku. The substitutes immediately combine on the break but Sarr's effort is parried clear by Riemann.

Half-time: Wolfsburg 1-0 Bochum

The hosts head into the break in the lead thanks to Wind's long-awaited 10th goal of the campaign. He took it very well and the Wolves will be pleased with the scoreline after being second best for large parts.

Wolfsburg in front!

Against the run of play, it's Wolfsburg that now take the lead just minutes after Bochum have one chalked out. Wind is the goalscorer, firing home on his left foot following a bit of pinball on the edge of the box. It's his first Bundesliga goal since November.

Bochum denied breakthrough

Osterhage thinks he now has the visitors in front but his celebrations are cut short by the video assistant. Stöger sends over an outswinging corner from the right which is headed down into the path of Osterhage who lashes home from close range but is offside when he does so. We remain at 0-0.

Wide from Osterhage

A first proper sight of goal and it comes the way of the visitors. Osterhage slides in at the back post but can only send Passklack's cross from the right wide as he looks to put it back where it came from. A good chance but not an easy one.

No chances yet

It's been a sedate start at the Volkswagen Arena, with neither goalkeeper put to the test thus far. The hosts have had most of the ball but without really threatening.

More on those teams

Hasenhüttl has made three changes to the team that lost to Leipzig a week ago, with Maxence Lacroix, Tiago Tomás and Jonas Wind all coming into the side. As for Bochum, they remain unchanged from last week's draw at home to Heidenheim.

Butscher's view on Wolfsburg

“Our clear goal is to go there and win the match, of course to get Wolfsburg involved, it’s clear what that means. But to have the awareness, the confidence, to be bold and say, yes, we can win in Wolfsburg, that’s really important to me.”

Hasenhüttl's view on Bochum

“We must be more dangerous in front of goal and cleverer in certain respects. It was important not only to address this, but also to work on it. I don’t think we should increase the pressure on us even more. Everybody knows what it’ll come down to in the match, it’s a very important home match. Our last two home matches ended in clear-cut defeats, so I think our task is clear, full focus on winning the match this weekend.”

In with the new

As mentioned earlier, Ralph Hasenhüttl was brought in to take over from departing Wolfsburg boss Niko Kovač several weeks ago, but there is also a new man in the Bochum hotseat, with the club's U19 coach Heiko Butscher in temporary charge following Thomas Letsch's dismissal.

Hoping for a change

Just 28 points from 29 games marks Wolfsburg's weakest run in a Bundesliga season to this point. They are also without a home win in eight matches. Bochum, meanwhile, have won just once on the road this season.

Worrying form

The Wolves have just one win to show from their last 14 Bundesliga games and their recently-appointed coach Ralph Hasenhüttl will be hoping lessons were learned after last week's heavy defeat at RB Leipzig.

Point gained

Saturday's visitors to the Volkswagen Arena picked up an important point away against Heidenheim last weekend and they sit just a point behind 14th placed Wolfsburg as a result.

Relegation six-pointer

We're reaching that part of the season where every game has potentially huge consequences and with Bochum visiting Wolfsburg, the three points on offer will be fought hard over by two teams keen on moving away from the drop zone. Last time out, Bochum prevailed.
