Beckenbauer remembered

There is a minute's silence for 'Der Kaiser' Franz Beckenbauer before kick-off.

More on Heidenheim's team

Heidenheim have looked surprisingly settled for a team that were supposed to be fightin for survival, with the team underpinned by new USMNT international Lennard Maloney. Jan-Niklas Beste, owner of five goals and seven assists in the Hinrunde, is fit again.

More on Cologne's team

New manager Timo Schultz has stuck with 19-year-old Max Finkgräfe at left-back ahead of the veteran Dominique Heintz in the continued absence of Leart Paqarada. Captain Florian Kainz is restored to the flank, having been used as a No.10 by Schultz's predecessor, Steffen Baumgart.

Schmidt's view on Cologne

"I believe every single Cologne fan will support their team 100 percent. It'll be a very heated atmosphere. We're facing a team that will give everything to win against us and that will have an incredible amount of support. But at the end of the day, that's what makes football. Emotions belong in football and it's what makes it most fun. You hear from everyone in Cologne that you should be beating Heidenheim. The good thing for us is that the game still has to be played."
camera-photo

Schultz's view on Heidenheim

"They were known in Bundesliga 2 for being able to turn games through set pieces. They have a robust team and a very good set-piece taker in Jan-Niklas Beste. We didn't concede many through set pieces in the first half of the season, want to keep that up and step things up a bit in attacking set pieces. Compactness and aggression are Heidenheim's big strengths, but sometimes they're also underestimated in how they can play too."

Minute's silence

In honour of Franz Beckenbauer, there will be a minute’s silence held before all Bundesliga Matchday 17 matches, while players will also wear a black armband as a mark of respect for the passing of one of the all-time greats of German and world football.

Cologne - the season so far

Cologne have appointed former St. Pauli and Basel boss Timo Schultz as their new head coach to replace Baumgart. The 46-year-old takes over with the Billy Goats struggling in 17th place, only above bottom side Darmstadt on goal difference, and three points adrift of safety. They've won just twice.

Heidenheim - the season so far

New boys Heidenheim are making a real fist of life in the Bundesliga. They're ninth after 16 matches, 10 points clear of the relegation zone. Home form has been key for Frank Schmidt's charges, who've collected 16 points the Voith-Arena compared to four on the road. Jan-Niklas Beste has also been something of a revelation, producing five goals and seven assists from midfield.

Head-to-head record

Cologne won away and drew at home, when the two teams met in Bundesliga 2 in 2018/19. However, this will be their first top-flight meeting.
