Kobel: 'We needed a win today'

Another title twist!

The draw takes BVB two points clear of Bayern, who could leapfrog them tomorrow if they beat Hertha at home. Take nothing away from Bochum though, who battled hard and defended brilliantly to take another step, however small, towards safety. They're now three points ahead of 16th-placed Stuttgart, who have the better goal difference going into their fixture against Gladbach on Saturday.

Wide from Bellingham!

Süle clips a cross into the midd from the right. Bellingham rises highest but he guides his header wide of the far post!

Last throw of the dice

Terzic brings on his big boys - Modeste and Wolf - for the final couple of minutes. Will a greater physical presence up top make the difference?

Wide from Malen!

Ryerson crosses from the right. It's a bit behind Malen but he flicks it with his heel and it bobbles just wide of the far post.

Supersub supreme?

Reyna has already scored four goals off the bench this season. Can he get another one here?

Riemann again!

Bellingham with a curler from just inside the box. It's heading for the top corner but the goalkeeper sticks out a big paw to claw it clear.

Moukoko goes close!

The two Dortmund subs almost have an instant impact as Reus finds Moukoko, whose shot under pressure from 10 yards is well saved by Riemann.

Driving force

Belling is trying to get things going for Dortmund. His won 60 percent of all his challenges and completed 69 percent of his passes.

Attacking impetus

Head coach Edin Terzic shakes things up as his side look to grab a goal in the closing stages. Reus and Moukoko come on for Brandt and Haller.

Fresh legs up front

Bochum make the first substitution of the game as former Dortmund forward Broschinski replaces Hofmann up top.

Tireless Bochum

The hosts have collectively covered more than two kilometres (1.24 miles) more than BVB.

Over from Malen!

Neat build-up from Dortmund as some first-time passes fashion some space. Malen jinks in from the left and gets a shot away but he loses his footing and the ball sails well over.

Double chance!

A Bochum corner is only half-cleared to Osterhage, who unleashes a fierce left-footed drive. It's blocked by Süle but the ball comes to Stöger, who takes a shot himself, but it's straight at Kobel.

Dortmund more assured

The visitors have completed significantly more passes than the home side but they've struggled to click into gear in this half.

Riemann alert

Süle gets forward and crosses into the middle from the right but Riemann watches the ball all the way and plucks it out of the air ahead of Haller.

Bellingham goes close

The English youngster finds space in a central position and gets a shot away. It takes two deflections en route and the ball loops up and goes just wide.

Over from Stöger

The Bochum midfielder is first to a loose ball on the edge of the area but his left-footed strike is well off target.

Scrappy phase

It's all still a bit unsettled so far as the teams look to establish supremacy in this half.

Off again

No changes from either side as the second half gets under way.

All square at the break

Dortmund have seen more of the ball and created more chances so far, but Bochum are by no means out of this. They've looked dangerous going forward, particularly through Asano. You get the sense that the next goal will be decisive.

Wide from Hofmann!

A brilliant chance for Hofmann, who is unmarked at the back post as he collects a precise cross from Asano. The forward can only side-foot his effort wide of the target though.

Edging closer

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The away side are on top and looking far more likely to score next.

Riemann again!

Guerreiro drills a low cross in from the left and finds Malen, cutting in from the right. The Dutchman shoots first time with the outside of his right foot, but Riemann is well placed to save.

Brilliant from Riemann!

The Bochum goalkeeper is quick off his line to dive at the feet of Adeyemi, who had broken clear of the defence and was about to pull the trigger.

Wide from Asano!

The Japanese midfielder scampers forward to collect a long ball forward, in the right-hand channel. He gets a shot away but Süle slides in to deflect it wide. Asano holds his head in his hands afterwards, aware what a great chance that was.

Mr. 100%

Hummels has won all of his duels so far in this game, and has completed a team-high 97 percent of all his passes.

First booking

The Bochum defender goes into the book for hauling back Malen as he tried to get away down the Dortmund right.

Wide from Adeyemi!

Dortmund should be ahead! Brilliant from Bellingham to skip past Losilla on the right and get an angled shot away from 10 yards. Riemann saves but the rebound falls kindly for Adeyemi. It bounces up and it's on his weaker right foot and Adeyemi can only send it wide from close range!

No way through

All a bit too intricate from Dortmund around the edge of the Bochum box as they try to find a way through. The compact home side deal with the attack comfortably.

Little lull

After the ferocity of the opening exchanges, the past few minutes have been considerably calmer. Most of the action is concentrated in the middle third.

Adeyemi on fire

The Dortmund attacker now has four goals in his last seven Bundesliga outings.

Adeyemi in behind

The Germany international shows his pace to get behind the Bochum defence down the left and cross towards the back post. Soares is taking no chances and clears for a corner, which comes to nothing.

Bossing it

BVB are enjoying far more of the ball at present but the hosts are looking dangerous almost every time they get forward.

Asano goes close!

Dortmund are caught napping at a free-kick from the left, leaving Asano completely unmarked. The Japan international controls it well but fires his shot straight at Kobel.

Quick start

Losilla's strike was the earliest goal Bochum have scored this season. It was also the midfielder's first of 2022/23, bringing a 35-game drought to an end.

Perfect response!

Hummels sprays the ball from left to right to Malen, who skips past his marker down the right before crossing into the middle. Haller flicks it on with his toe, leaving Adeyemi with a simple tap-in at the back post! Game on!

Big goal!

Well, well, well! Asano's cross from the right is only cleared to the edge of the Dortmund box. It falls at the feet of captain Anthony Losilla, who takes a touch to settle himself before unleashing a brilliant shot into the top corner!

Fast start

As you might expect in a local derby, it's an intensive encounter already. Neither set of players is giving the other any space in the early battles to establish a foothold in the game.

And we're off!

Dortmund get Matchday 30 up and running!

Watch: The most exicting title run-ins of all time

Dortmund will be hoping the title race doesn't go down to the wire, but there's every chance it will - and it wouldn't be the first time.

Full Malen mode

Donyell Malen has scored in each of his last five matches, producing six goals all told. The last Dortmund player to fire in five straight Bundesliga games was Jadon Sancho, the man Malen was signed to replace in summer 2021.

Bellingham keeping emotions in check

"The way I look at it, things change quickly in this league, especially this season," Jude Bellingham told bundesliga.com after BVB's table-topping win over Frankfurt. "Last week, we were out of it, we were dead. The week before we had a chance. The week before that we were out of it and dead again. So, for me it's about staying [focused] during the positives and the negatives. There’s no point getting too high and there’s no point getting too low."

Watch: Behind the scenes in Bochum

This is the first of Bochum's final five games of the regulation season - three of which are at home. The question is: will they be playing host to Bundesliga or Bundesliga 2 football next season?

Watch: The calm before the storm

It's pretty quiet now, but the Vonovia-Stadion will be bouncing come kick off in the mini Revierderby.

More on those teams

Letsch makes two changes to the side beaten 5-1 by Wolfsburg. Cristian Gamboa replaces Jordi Osei-Tutu at right-back, while Takuma Asano is preferred to Simon Zoller in attack. Niklas Süle slots in for the injured Nico Schlotterbeck in the only change to the Dortmund team that beat Frankfurt 4-0. Captain Marco Reus, who yesterday signed a one-year contract extension with his boyhood club, is once again among the substitutes.

Coach view: BVB

Edin Terzic: "We know that it’s going to be a tough task to win [but] we’ll approach the challenge with a good portion of self-belief. We want to take five more steps [and] the most important step is the next one. The boys made a good impression in training. We're ready."

Coach view: Bochum

Thomas Letsch: "What could be better than a Friday night derby game? We will not hide. We have to try to allow as little as possible and when we get chances, we have to make use of them. It's all about the little things. We have to push it to the absolute limit over 90 minutes and be at 100 per cent in order to take points."
