Streich's side stay fifth, but have Union Berlin (provisionally) and Leipzig just a point ahead.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The hosts have definitely taken it up a notch after the restart and they are looking likely to bag a second at the moment.

Teams out!

A super atmosphere inside the Weserstadion greets both sets of teams. We're almost ready for kick off!

Close encounter?

“Regardless of our opponents, nearly all of our games this season have been tight games.," home coach Ole Werner said in his pre-match press briefing. "Each of [them] had moments in which the game could have gone either way.” Does a draw thus beckon based on the Bremen tactician's words? We'll soon find out.

"Still ambitious"

It's been another season to remember for Freiburg, who are chasing a top-four finish and have reached the DFB Cup semi-finals, where they will play their conquerors in last year's showpiece, Leipzig. "We’re very satisfied with how things have gone so far," coach Christian Streich explained. "However, we're are still ambitious enough to say that we’re heading to Bremen looking to win again.”

Freiburg team news

The visitors make three changes to the team that began last weekend's loss against Bayern Munich. Kübler, Lienhart and Sallai are all in from the beginning while Sildillia drops to the bench. Gregoritsch and Gulde miss out completely through respective injuries.

Werder team news

With Füllkrug missing, Bremen look to Maximilian Philipp to fill the striking void. This will be the Berlin native's first start for the Green-Whites after eight substitute appearances. It is Werder's only change compared to the side that started last weekend's dramatic draw against Mainz.

Füllkrug sidelined

"[Niclas] picked up a couple of minor issues during the Mainz game." So explained Werder coach Ole Werner when asked about the Bundesliga's top goalscorer, who has been ruled out of today's contest. We'll soon find out how Bremen will look to make up for the Germany international's considerable absence with the announcements of the teams.

Watch: Previous meeting: Freiburg 2-0 Werder Bremen

Freiburg took all three points when the teams met on Matchday 11. They were helped by Bremen defender Marco Friedl being sent off after only 11 minutes, but needed second-half goals from Lukas Kübler and Vincenzo Grifo to secure the points.

Winless Werder

Bremen have not won any of their five most recent Bundesliga outings, drawing two and losing three. It's their longest such drought under coach Ole Werner.

Beware Bremen's second wind

Werder have scored a league-high 18 goals in the final quarter of an hour of their matches this season. Of those, 14 have arrived after the 82nd minute, including six stoppage-time strikes. No other Bundesliga team can match those numbers. Indeed, if Bremen's matches had ended after 80 minutes instead of 90, they would have 10 points fewer on the board in 2022/23.

Can Freiburg get their 1,000th goal?

The Black Forest club have so far scored 999 times in 775 Bundesliga matches, putting them on the cusp of a major milestone. They will become the 21st club to reach the landmark when it happens.
