GRIFO THE GREAT
There goes the final whistle. Vincenzo Grifo's double has sent Freiburg into third place in the Bundesliga standings. A solid evening's work from the visitors who rack up win number seven for the season. Schalke remain bottom of the table and with plenty of work to do.
Yoshida takes out Schade and the game has one more booking.

Günter curls a corner from the right so far inwards that Schwolow has to make a diving, fisted save. The Freiburg captain then trips Latza who is trying to break upfield. Yellow card.
Incredible miss from Lucas Höler, who powers a header from a free kick wide of goal. The visiting No.9 really had to hit the target from there.
MOHR OF THE SAME FOR S04
So, so close for Schalke. Terodde lays one up for Mohr who thwacks a shot just past the far post. Heads in hands around in the Veltins Arena.
BIG SCHALKE MISS
Tom Krauß spurns a fantastic opportunity to reduce the arrears. The 21-year-old is suddenly in front of Flekken and shoots low, looking to nutmeg the goalkeeper. Flekken gets a touch, however, taking the pace off the ball.
GRIFO MAKES WAY
Freiburg's two-goal hero Grifo is replaced by Noah Weißhaupt. It's been another fine evening for the visiting attacker, who takes his tally to the season to six goals.
KÜBLER HAS A GO
Kübler tests Schwolow's reflexes with a snapshot from close in. The goalkeeper is equal to that effort.
Krauß with an awkward lunge on substitute Kyereh and that's going to be a yellow card for the Schalke man.
Double swap for Freiburg with Kyereh and Höler in for the final 20 minutes. Christian Streich will be content to instruct his side to just see this one out from here.
REIS DEEP IN THOUGHT
Thomas Reis cuts a lonely figure on the touchline at the Veltins Arena. The new Schalke boss has plenty to ponder as he tries to turn the Royal Blue ship around in the coming weeks.
GRIFO DOUBLES UP
A short run up from Grifo, whose penalty finds the corner. That's two for the Freiburg No. 32 and the visitors are in complete control.
Back to the previous move and it looks like Jeong has been upended by Calhanoglu just inside the Schalke area. The ref runs across to check the monitor on this one. And then gives a penalty.
Situation No penalty
Jeong and Doan combine, the latter striking low at goal. Schwolow gets down to parry that one out.
Schalke's No.9 is not used to being out of the starting lineup but he's on now as Thomas Reis opts for a double swap, Tobias Mohr also entering the fray.
VISITORS UP THE TEMPO
Ginter's shot smashes into Matriciani's face. Grifo then misses the target by inches and Freiburg look to turn the screw here.
BIG FREIBURG MISS
Huge chance for Freiburg. Grifo's shot is parried by Schwolow, the ball bouncing out to Jeong who somehow lashes wide with the goal at his mercy. Incredible.
SECOND HALF IN ON
Schalke get us off and running in the second 45'.
And that's that for what turned out to be a very exciting first half. The visitors lead, and arguably deservedly so, thanks to that Grifo dart to the corner right before the break. Schalke are very much in this game though, so expect second-half fireworks.
FREIBURG IN FRONT
Freiburg lead and it's Grifo who bags the goal right before half time. The visiting forward takes possession on the left, moves forward a few paces and then darts a very tidy finish away into the far corner of the net. Top goal.
A sweeping, forward move from Schalke sees Bülter tee up Mollet from the left. The French midfielder lashes his shot over the crossbar.
Ginter has a little tug on Mollet and goes into the referee's notebook. The Freiburg man felt that was more 50/50, with the Schalke midfielder initiating contact with his opponent.
Calhanoglus is straight into the thick of things, slamming a shot on the half volley narrowly over the crossbar!
CALHANOGLU IS ON
Kerim Calhanoglu is on to replace the injured Ouwejan, who applauds the home fans as he hobbles towards the dressing rooms.
Thomas Ouwejan is down shaking his head and receiving treatment after stretching into a challenge moments earlier. This does not look good for the Royal Blues' No. 2.
Gregoritsch's angled header from a corner is blocked out and Schalke survive.

BIG DOAN MISS
Doan is well positioned and should do better than to find Schwolow's midriff with a weak shot. A big chance for Freiburg there.
Jeong has a pop from downtown and it's a very good one, the ball wobbling and dipping all the way towards goal before zipping just over.
More Schalke pressure. The home fans like this. Mollet has a shot blocked and the hosts eventually win a corner, which comes to nothing.
KARAMAN HAS A GO
Karaman has Schalke's first effort on goal, a rolling shot that Flekken gathers with ease.
Polter reefs back Grifo and the ref blows for a foul. The yellow card is also out for the Schalke man, who is far from happy to see it.
EGGESTEIN HAS A GO
Günter crosses, Eggestein angles a header wide of the far post. The home crowd are noticeably quieter than they were at kick off.
Günter's shot is blocked. It's all Freiburg at the Veltins Arena. Schalke are content to soak up the visitors' early pressure.
For a moment there it appeared as though Yoshida might put through his own net after connecting with Doan's cross from the right. The ball bounced up into the grateful arms of Schwolow.
FREIBURG STRIKE FIRST
Doan tests Schwolow with a daisy cutter from distance. The Schalke keeper gets down and handles that with relative ease.
AWAY WE GO !
It's game on at the Veltins Arena as the Thomas Reis Schalke era gets underway against a Freiburg side keen to jump up into third spot in the standings.
