Now it's the other keeper's turn to make a big stop. Heidenheim counter-attack, Kerber receives the ball and shoots straight away. But Schreiber is able to save the shot with relative ease.

Keeper Dähne keeps Heidenheim in the game. Dresden start an attack down the right. A lovely half-volley cross comes in from Hauptmann, and in the centre İnanoğlu meets it with an almost perfect diving header from just under ten metres out. New to Heidenheim's starting XI are Mikkel Kaufmann and Luca Kerber, both of whom have only had brief appearances this season so far. Kaufmann picked up an assist as a substitute in Berlin and scored once in the DFB Cup. The Dane last started in January; Kerber in March.

Heidenheim's new left back

Michael Heule, signed at the beginning of the week, makes his debut. Heule won the Swiss title with Thun last season and has already made six competitive appearances in 2026/27 - the most recent of which was a 7-0 defeat in Europa League qualifying against Lech Poznan. His inclusion could see Jonas Föhrenbach move infield.

Change in goal

Frank Feller was in goal for the first three competitive matches, but today new signing Thomas Dähne makes his debut. The 32-year-old was first-choice goalkeeper in the 3. Liga at 1860 Munich last season, but is also no stranger to Bundesliga 2 (51 appearances for Holstein Kiel).

There are also five changes compared to the most recent league match against Hertha Berlin, partly because Adrian Beck and Marvin Pieringer have left the club.

Unlike many of his counterparts, Thomas Stamm made no experiments whatsoever in the DFB Cup, fielding the same starting XI as in the league win against Darmstadt. He would have gladly named this side for a third consecutive time, but has to do without Nicolai Rapp, with Lukas Boeder (pictured) coming in to make his first start of the season.
