Full-time: Dresden 1-0 Darmstadt

The Saxons with a deserved, but by no means entirely convincing win. After a strong first half, they lost the thread a little in the second half, but regained it through Klefisch's sending-off. In the end, Darmstadt were not incisive enough going forward either. Kohfeldt's side lacked intensity particularly off the ball.

They're throwing the kitchen sink

Vukotić has now pushed forward, playing as a second striker. His teammates just aren't finding him yet.
90'

Two more substitutions

Fröling comes on for Dresden. The visitors, meanwhile, bring on Petretta for the final moments.
88'

Post!

Lemmer turns in the centre, dribbles towards the Lilien penalty area and shoots from 20 yards. Schuhen gets his fingertips to it and deflects the low shot onto the right post. The corner comes to nothing.
79'

Both teams make curious substitutions

Dynamo brings on three new players at once with Lemmer, Herrmann and Boeder. Kohfeldt also brings on fresh legs, with Verkooijen, Lee and Merx now on the pitch for the final phase.
77'

Dresden must be careful

The red card hasn't stopped Darmstadt from pushing for a leveller. Kehl's cross from the right, however, only finds Schreiber.
73'

Against the run of play

The red card completely disrupts Darmstadt's momentum. Up until now they had been on top, pushing for the equaliser. Now we have a different game on our hands and Dynamo can breathe a sigh of relief.

Darmstadt down to ten men!

Klefisch initially loses the ball in the build-up to Vermeij and then fouls Hauptmann on the halfway line. The referee doesn't hesistate in showing him a second yellow card.
69'

Schreiber has to get there!

Darmstadt move forward down the right flank as Lannert finds Smit. With a close-range effort he tests the Dresden goalkeeper, who turns the ball away for a corner.
63'

Pressure in building..

Free kick from the right side towards the tall man wearing number 20. Vukotić cannot get proper purchase on the header, though. Dynamo manage to clear with a combined effort. Darmstadt are pushing for an equaliser now!
59'

Darmstadt pick up their first card

Klefisch goes up for an aerial duel with Wagner and catches the Dresden player with his elbow on the head. He is shown a yellow card, seemingly for his animated protests.
57'

Schreiber collects

Vukotić whips in a cross from the left half-space and finds Smit. However, his header lacks power and is held by Schreiber.
54'

Just wide

Hauptmann and İnanoğlu combine going forward, but the latter places his shot wide of the left post.
50'

Free kick for the visitors

On the left, Kehl draws a foul against Keller. Kleinhansl plays the ball towards the penalty area, but the subsequent header from Smit is straight at the keeper.
47'

Bobzien tests Schuhen

A lovely pass from Vermeij goes out to Bobzien on the right. His direct shot is saved by Schuhen, and the follow-up shot is then blocked by Darmstadt with a combined effort.
46'

The second half begins!

Darmstadt make one change by bringing on Kehl for Furukawa. Dynamo, meanwhile, come out of the dressing room unchanged.

Half-time: Dresden 1-0 Darmstadt

A deserved lead for the hosts. In terms of play, they have been superior throughout the first half, keeping the ball moving well. Just before the break, Darmstadt got more into the match, but without ever posing a massive threat.

Dangerous moments for Dresden

Weißhaupt wins a foul at the right corner of the penalty area. That was close - a few centimetres further and it would have been a penalty. Kleinhansl then curls the ball with his left foot towards the near post, but Wagner is alert and clears with his knee.
42'

Corner

Smit plays the ball into the path of the overlapping Lannert on the right. However, Rossipal is able to clear it out for a corner. The corner kick is subsequently cleared.
39'

Wasted crossing opportunity

Dynamo venture forward once again through Bobzien, who drives a low cross into the Darmstadt box. But instead of Hauptmann, he only finds a defender.
36'

Side netting

Down the right flank, the visitors play it quickly as Weißhaupt picks up the ball in a pocket of space. His cross is slightly deflected and lands in the side netting. Duijvestijn's corner kick is then cleared at the near post.
34'

Momentum change?

Darmstadt are now enjoying longer spells of possession. However, a pass from Sickinger out to the flank to Furukawa goes into touch - which just about sums in their first half.
32'

Rapp pulling the strings

Dresden are looking very solid in midfield. Wagner and especially Rapp are winning a lot of loose balls and distributing them well. However, there is currently a slight lack of drive going forward.
30'

Dresden working hard off the ball

The hosts are, on average, ten seconds quicker at winning back lost balls than Darmstadt.

Familiar pattern

The visitors are still struggling to get into the game here. They seem to know the ball only by hearsay.

The first card of the match

Keller receives an early yellow card for a foul from behind on Smit at the half-way line.
23'

İnanoğlu has a go

Darmstadt are careless defensively once again. Dynamo are able to pass the ball around freely just outside the opposition box before İnanoğlu gets on the ball and his shot is deflected away for a corner. It subsequently comes to nothing, however.
18'

Behind again

On Matchday 1, Darmstadt were 2-0 down at home against Kiel but ended up drawing 2-2. Can they turn this one around as well?
17'

Another attempt

Once again, the attack comes down the right flank. A cross-field pass at the edge of the penalty area finds the tucked-in Bobzien. His shot, however, is too weak to cause Schuhen any problems.
16'

Long time coming

For Sterner, it is only his fourth goal in his 56th Bundesliga 2 match. His previous strike in the second tier came in November 2023 for Holstein Kiel (in a 4-2 home win against Hamburg).

Dresden take the lead!

Sterner drives the ball forward in midfield and plays it out wide to the right to Vermeij. With a single touch, the striker lays the ball back into the penalty area to his teammate and Sterner slots it in low with his right foot. What a great attack by the hosts, who have been dominant so far!

Not much from the visitors so far

Darmstadt have been chasing the game from the outset. They are pressing high, but the gaps between the lines are too large. Dresden keep managing to play their way out of trouble.
7'

Corner

Dynamo keep up the pressure. Bobzien drives with the ball from the left into the penalty area. Hauptmann's corner kick, however, comes to nothing. Darmstadt manage to clear the ball away.
4'

Double chance!

First, Vermeij tries his luck from a low cross from the right, turning to shoot. Rossipal, who has pushed forward, tries to convert the rebound at the edge of the penalty area. However, his attempt is blocked as well.
3'

Dynamo keeps the ball moving

So far, Darmstadt have not had a single touch of the ball. Dresden, meanwhile, are moving it nicely around the back.

The ball is rolling!

Here we go... Dresden get the game underway.

Florian Kohfeldt on facing Dresden

"I believe that Dynamo were one of the standout sides of the second half of last season. They have a very play-oriented approach, which they maintained even during spells when results weren't going their way – that deserves great respect. They have stayed committed to their development, which speaks volumes for the manager, the squad and the club alike. They like to build up play from the back and make a lot of runs in behind."

Thomas Stamm on facing Darmstadt

"Darmstadt are a side I expect to be in the top third of the table. They rely heavily on physicality and come with great power and intensity, which will demand everything from us, especially on set pieces. Compared to the first matchday, we need to improve in several areas, and above all we need presence and energy. There will definitely be a reaction and a full stadium is key for us in that regard."

The Lilies loan in Smit

Darmstadt have signed young forward Milan Smit on loan from English Championship side Stoke City.

Happy hunting ground

They were beaten at the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion back in February, but that was a rare blip for Darmstadt at the home of their Matchday 2 opponents. The Lilies have won eight of their last 12 meetings with Dynamo, who failed to score in seven of those games.

Watch: Dynamo Dresden 3-1 Darmstadt - previous meeting

When these sides last met in February, Dresden were hovering precariously above the drop zone and Darmstadt were occupying the automatic promotion places. Dynamo managed to shock the Lilies here, thanks in large part to Vincent Vermeij's first-half brace.
